Navas wasn't doing very well, but Spain doesn't really have anybody else there with Lenormand sanctioned. I'm not completely sure how the 1on1 battles currently work, but seems manageable for Spain. Barcola looks a bit dangerous at times, but nothing too alarming so far.

You basically can skip the second half, only watch the first....especially that one goal!

What a little juke and then the defenders didn't buy it so he just curled the ball around them instead. Amazing. Arda Guler scored a cracker too, and I found Mert’s volley in that game immensely satisfying. Speaking of Guler, he looks a bloody good player. I wonder if he’ll become the new Martin Odegaard? Doesn’t quite break through at Real, but good enough to become the main man for another top European side. He seems pretty versatile but unless he can really nail the kind of Modric role, which maybe isn’t his absolute best position then I don’t see who he supplants. Will definitely be following him with more interest after this tournament anyway!

I guess this season with the maior injury is not the best to judge wether he will have success at real or not.

I guess this season with the maior injury is not the best to judge wether he will have success at real or not. It’s less his quality, but where he fits in and whether he gets that shot. Even after a season at Soceidad where observers I trust the opinion of felt he was one of the best players in La Liga, Odegaard couldn’t get an extended run. Not just him, I’m curious to see how Real make their squad work this season with Mbappe landing, Vinicius playing in that fellow’s best position, and what they do with Bellingham. Part of why the latter was so effective was he was almost playing as a deep-lying centre forward at times to compensate for a lack of a Benzema. I can’t see him being employed like that again this time around. Vinicius is a strange player in that he’s lethal on the left and mystifyingly terrible on the right. I’m sure Ancelotti will figure something out, as he did this season.
