But people use him and earlier on Mourinho as examples to teach to kids "work hard, full dedication and you can be the best in the world" and react very badly whenever people challenge the notion that they are no longer or were not the best (mourinho failed so many times and never reached cronaldo status that it is acceptable to bash him these days). And as I write this, today he is making news around here because someone says once more that he is pushing is career because he wants to play with his son before retiring. Which is fine, but leave the NT alone. Watch his kid being called to the NT just to make cronaldo happy (kind of joking...I hope). They’re both good examples that a ‘strong mentality’ can be actively detrimental, yeah I see those kind of comments from fanboys all the time. Ronaldo’s self-belief undoubtedly helped make him a truly great player. But he’s never recalibrated, so he’s borderline delusional at this stage. Taking responsibility and carrying your team through big moments is a huge asset when you can manage it. But when you can’t, it too can be very detrimental. David Beckham, one of the best set piece takers around taking them all makes sense, and hence you get him memorably scoring a cracker in extra time against Greece to send England to the 2002 World Cup. Ronaldo doing so, and shooting from ludicrous positions just begging for a cross is actively negative to his team. Mourinho I guess it’s that he never really adapted and went from the cutting edge to well, not. Plus some of the negative elements of his character start becoming much bigger issues when you’re not getting the commensurate results. I think people forget that Ferguson or Ancelotti have shown a willingness and capacity to adapt over time. Not just to the tactical changes of the game, but the changes in culture that happen if you’re around for decades. | ||
