HE SAVES! What would you suggest otherwise? Not giving a 70%+ chance for a goal in a generally low-scoring sport for a ball hitting somebody’s hand when it’s whacked in from a few metres away Give a penalty if it’s someone blocking a shot that would have been a goal by all means, or a blatant deliberate one. Luis Suarez versus Ghana would be a famous example that ticks both of those boxes If the difference between giving a penalty and a likely goal against a defender or, nothing is literally often just where on the body a ball hits, reviewed in slow motion after the fact, the balance doesn’t feel right at all While writing this HOLY SHIT ITALY WHAT DRAMA!
yeah but what is the alternative? Because if its not penalties you will see tons of hand blocking

And I used limitless to get 3 Spaniards...
Why? Its expected that the teams with guaranteed first place rotate a full team for MD3.
Portugal will be the same. I used limitless this MD but for the opposite, to remove players from P1 teams 😂

Füllkrug has 0.5 xG and scored two goals...
Havertz playing every game is as baffling as neuer still getting the spot

Well maybe Martínez surprises us but the expectation is that either full 11 switch or 9 switch keeping Cronaldo and palhinha.
Lets see :D but you are still ahead of me in the table :D

Me neither, especially since England are plaing Slovenia. On a related note, how come this England team are being criticized so much, compared to their equally underwhelming 2010 and 2016 counterparts, who despite equally underwhelming groupstage performances were (as far as I can remember) still treated as potential champions right until the moment they were eliminated?

Lack of perspective is probably to blame. The longer we go being a nearly team the more frustrated the fans get, especially considering alot of England fans seem to see it as a decent probability that we win every tournament we play (despite all the evidence suggesting we're never going to win anything).

I think it's because the insane talent on that side is always capable of producing a tournament win. So they're always a looming threat in case somehow Southgate manages to change his tactics overnight. But they're definitely not favorites. They're the clear "on paper" strongest team.
Funny enough, today for the Euros is all Red-White-Blue flags. Same with the Copa sans the little emblems in the middle of the Argentina and Peru flag.

But, at least this years team can properly be classified as a "nearly team". Before 2018, any England team were more like a "not even close team", and yet the "not even close teams" have gotten way more credit than the "nearly team" of today?

You're preaching to the choir here. Southgate is a massive improvement on what we had before, and probably as good as anyone else we're going to get, but he gets so much abuse in England its ridiculous. I think with Bellingham, Foden, Kane etc. people's expectations are way too high. Our defence is poor and our midfield is average, but people see all the attacking talent and assume we should be kicking ass in every game.

Pfff, we continue to botch 100% chances. The only time we aim between the posts, it's an own goal.
|
2 NL defenders...someone scores an own goal. Fail.
Kante is a beast recovering and taking balls forward but holly molly has he decided wrong in or close to the opposition area.

Imagine poland not sucking for ONCE!!!!

Hate for upamecano is real now. 16 pts down the drain with this.

Bit soft. Wouldn't normally expect VAR to get involved with that tbh.
|
VAR got it right this time, but once again, a million minutes to check that. Why did it take so long?
|
What the fuck was the Dutch defense doing there?!

Its not always a question of whether any contact was made, it has to be enough to be deemed worth a penalty. That was on the line imo, a bit soft but you could see the way it altered the attacker's run. I can understand taking a minute or two on that.
