The content prepared this time is another UBE series. In the foreign scene, there are sometimes people who say this. “Dewalt, Bonyth have reached 2600-2800 mmr and if they practice enough they can pass the ASL qualifiers. The reason they don't pass the ASL qualifiers is that they have their own families and jobs, so they can focus on practice compared to Korean gamers. It's because the environment isn't set up." So I prepared this content.
Ample and Shine can't focus on streaming because they have a job, and they only do very limited streaming. Sacsri is practically a gamer near retirement from competition due to wrist problems.
In order to prove the claims made by some foreign players, foreign players will have to win against Koreans with the same conditions.
The 4th matchup will be revealed at a later date.
The game system is 9 games, with the final game being played with an 8-0 score. All dates and matchups confirmed.
The maps used are 7 maps from this season's Ladder maps and 2 additional maps. The extra map is one of the maps I suggested where each player bans 1 map and chooses 1 map.
idk the logistics of setting it up but it would be cool if scan could have a 2nd commentator with him? scan is very good at commentary, he might be my favorite starcraft commentator to listen to. but 2 commentators is always better than 1 imo. it would be cool if it is a zerg player maybe for a tvz like this last one?
nyoken and scan do a really good job with the ASL videos but i notice a lot that their ideas are from the terran perspective, and i play all 3/random so i notice it a lot that they dont talk as much from the protoss or zerg perspective.
StarCastTV English answers --> no. This content needs a lot of live viewers to last. However, there are very few live viewers of this content. For korean vs korean UBE content, it averaged only 5 viewers. So we decided to delete the VOD after casting this content. These contents are only available for viewing live.

Im too old to stay up that long. Probably most BW players are too old for that :D.
Well.. taking feedback that 3am is too late to watch, I started streaming this time at 10-11am cet but the viewership didn't increase. i think maybe.. content other than ASL and ASTL is not of interest to English viewers. In the case of ASL International Battle, I thought that could be the case, but ASL Revenge Battle was very interesting content, but the number of live viewers was very small.
Scan and Nyoken take the time to cast their content in English exclusively for English viewers. The way you guys support them is by watching the streaming live. If this continues, we have no choice but to seriously think about whether to continue providing an English cast service.
If you have any ideas for how to increase live stream viewership, let me know what you think in the comments.
Aim for 6pm in the country of your target audience. If that’s Americans then like 7pm Eastern. We have jobs, families, routines. We can’t be watching anything live during work hours or sleep hours. That leaves like 4 hours a day you need to broadcast during, except on weekends.

i've been thinking about this for a few days now. it is a difficult problem. i have enjoyed your VODs a lot, though i have not watched live.
instead of thinking of solutions immediately, it's worth examining the problem fully, thinking about every contributing factor:
- i think non-koreans have trouble finding afreeca.tv streams organically. youtube and twitch, they might wander into it, but foreigners never go on afreeca website on their own unless they are already very familiar with starcraft or something else popular in korea. on youtube or twitch, someone might think "oh i remember starcraft, i wonder what a starcraft tournament looks like now" and type it in.
- i notice BSL gets coverage on the front page of tl.net, but your events i don't think they have been?
- even for stuff like BSL, they're not sustained by a lot of viewers, but instead by donations. I know I saw someone donated like $1000+ for BSL. I look at the vod for BSL13 grand finals on twitch and there are only 8800 viewers, which for the grand finals of a tournament with thousands of dollars on the line is pretty small compared to other non-starcraft games, even niche games. so i think it's mostly not the live viewers that are making that work.
i know tastosis make a lot of their money off of patreon donations, not viewership.
- i think there's a lack of knowledge about these events. i'm not sure how to get the word out. i don't know if you've tried cross-promoting with other starcraft streamers/casters? (BSL, artosis, tasteless, team think quick, etc)
- i think a lot of the viewers/money for tasteless and artosis is fueled by people with a parasocial relationship with tasteless and artosis specifically. it is not as much about the starcraft itself, or the players. if you look at Artosis's twitch stream ever, you will see what I mean. there are people just donating $50+ an hour to him just to annoy him with text-to-speech. i don't know if that kind of money can come from just good games of starcraft. i love scan and nyoken's commentary a whole lot and i hope they can continue doing it as they have been doing it, talking about strategy.
for example, scan and nyoken dont talk much about which players are friends or rivals, or where the players came from. and they don't joke around as much.
during the kespa era, foreign viewers had a parasocial relationship with the korean progamers, but i feel this is less true now. i'm not sure why this is different. i guess it's because OGN and MBC put a lot of money into it back then.
- live times will always be bad for some group of people, and i think because of this non-koreans are used to watching VODs always. there's a variety of reasons VODs are more convenient for viewers too (easier to organize groupwatch, don't have to watch in 1 sitting, can rewind, can skip empty time, and so on)
... that's a lot. hmm. so i dont know what the solution is, but i don't think doing 1 thing differently will solve the problem. i think that maybe there just isn't enough live foreign viewers on afreeca.tv. i hope that you can find a way to keep doing this stuff.
