Oh fuck he probably forgot to ask for extension or something. Unbelievable really. Those years he miss are probably going to be the last of top sc2, and was is in position to be among the top competitors.

He got accepted to auxiliary police, one of the way of alternate service which is planned to be abolished from 2022. soO is also servicing as auxiliary police and reason why TY decided to rush is because this way is more gamer-friendly if they would like to return after service(TY said that he would like to return). Korean military service is way too strict and soldiers weren't even able to bring in their cellphones until July 2020. But as an auxiliary police, TY could interact with outer world more often than others, which includes SC2 pro scene.

But the reasoning makes sense. I guess he looked at ByuN as an example for how this could work in his favor. I hope that unlike soO, he doesn't fizzle out in his last few months and can still take down a big championship.

Don't tell me the thought didn't cross your mind. The reasoning does make sense - but only if there is something left to come back to. It sounds like he'll miss everything up to and including Katowice 2023. This makes me even more disappointed that Katowice will be cross server (not that ESL had a choice).

What worries me the most is whether GSL and other offline tournaments exist or not after TY returns.

ESL kinda did him dirty though. I don't know what kind of system they used to make the groups but it's actively bad for the highest seeded player. Unless of course they just nailed the random draw so TY got the highest point player he could have 3 out of 4 times.

That group of death looks tough and you just know they'll put ByuN in there to boot, but TY's tvt should at least carry him through.

But so far so good. And he not only skips the Ro12 but also gets an extra day of rest. Hope he's super ready on Saturday.
