ya, this is the problem with getting into discussions like "player XYZ is over rated" or "team XYZ is over rated"

Im analyzing data, and I am seeing a foul labeled: IN.Foul What do you guys think this is? "reach in foul" ? I thought that wasn't a real foul also all the fouls have labels like: Hayward IN.FOUL (P1.T2) (K.Fitzgerald) Ennis III IN.FOUL (P2.T1) (M.Smith) Young IN.FOUL (P3.T1) (M.McCutchen) Kilpatrick IN.FOUL (P2.T2) (D.Taylor) Harkless IN.FOUL (P2.T3) (J.Williams) Ross IN.FOUL (P1.T3) (T.Brothers) Chriss IN.FOUL (P4.T2) (S.Corbin) Douglas IN.FOUL (P2.PN) (K.Lane) Rubio IN.FOUL (P2.PN) (M.Kogut) Gobert IN.FOUL (P6.PN) (Z.Zarba) Dieng IN.FOUL (P1.T3) (B.Barnaky) White IN.FOUL (P1.PN) (K.Mauer) Gobert IN.FOUL (P3.PN) (D.Taylor) Rozier IN.FOUL (P1.PN) (M.McCutchen) Abrines IN.FOUL (P4.T3) (E.Lewis) Henderson IN.FOUL (P1.T3) (L.Wood) Beal IN.FOUL (P4.PN) (B.Spooner) Christon IN.FOUL (P1.T2) (M.Ayotte) Chandler IN.FOUL (P1.T4) (C.Washington) What do you guys think the entries in the parenthesis mean? #player fouls #team fouls? But then what are PN or T3 etc? Anwyays any ideas? please help, thanks

Here is last night's New Orleans//Brooklyn game. The game features 3-seconds in the key technical fouls, flagrant fouls, and personal take fouls which are intentional fouls usually used to stop the clock. It also features the standard fouls that happen many times every game. https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/pbp/201911040BRK.html On November 06 2019 10:04 KOFgokuon wrote: Intentional foul (maybe), p,x is how many fouls that player has, the second to is how many team fouls in the quarter, PN means they are in the penalty "Gobert IN.FOUL (P6.PN) (Z.Zarba)" It's unlikely Rudy Gobert is tasked with intentionally fouling when he is on 5 fouls. Anything is possible, but I doubt it. I see them intentionally fouling without 5-foul Gobert on the floor.. stopping the clock.. then marching Rudy out for the next play.

So.. maybe intentional foul but maybe not. I'll have to really look into that when I get the chance. For my last semester at UNI I am doing a pretty extreme final project for my data science class. I am basically doing a deep dive into 2012-2019 referee bias(*cough*corruption*cough). Using ML/Stats to analyze and make visualizations for officiating crew, which teams played, whether it was reg season or playoffs, fouls/violations/ejections for each team and the general type of foul, home/away, game outcome, and pre-game average betting moneyline. Also probably some other stuff like some kind of metric for how much fouls called effected game outcome, and probably tracking free throws as well. Gathering all this data has been a .... giant pain in the ass. I'll let you guys see it when I am done, the nature of the project is that it will be published to a website. If any of you come up with some cool ideas I could add to this let me know, I am going well beyond the scope of what is required for the project, since it will look very good to show any prospective employers. Unfortunately I would have really liked data that specifically included which official made a given call, but the best I've been able to do without paying a ton of money is just finding the officiating crew for the given game.

In order to download it you have to "follow" a couple of academic people in whom you probably have no interest. However, its free and it is detailed and thorough. Where do you get the data? Scrape it off of the Basketball-Reference.com play by play pages for each NBA game. starting a coder/software dev/IT/analytics/software-engineer career... + Show Spoiler + When I was getting my software dev biz off the ground I made a very simple office pool app. I demo-ed it when talking to prospective project managers//it managers//CIOs. It kept things light and fun and gave me an excuse to keep in touch with them even if I'd been turned down for the project/job. In app I made... you drafted 3 teams from a league ( NBA/NHL/MLB whatever). It was a contest to see who gets the most wins. One could "set up and draft teams" in less than 30 seconds so the interviewers did it during my interview. The winning prize was some free project management advice from someone I knew at BDO Canada. Any job/project I was close to nailing I just shuffled the various leagues around so the project manager I was dealing with "won". I ended up nailing a couple of projects where I was their #2 choice. In a few cases they grew dissatisfied with their #1 choice and gave me a shot. The key to moving from #2 up to #1 is making sure your application they used during the interview is bullet-proof. For example, we could start a pool right now. Everyone draft 3 teams and whichever team group gets the most total wins from November 7 to November 21 wins. BAM, there is simple pool anyone can "enter and draft" and be done with in 30 seconds. One other thing about starter Computer Science/Analytics/Development/Coder jobs. I recommend this : chase good management ... do not chase good money. If you are working under good management... the money will come. It is usually more important to develop top notch skills under smart people who are well managed than it is to make an extra $100/week. Under good management a talented software developer will see their pay double or triple in the first two years. SO that starting salary don't mean that much. Just my $0.02.

I know they exist, certain websites use them to make shot charts. But none of those websites that I found also make the actual data available, and thus I cannot create my own shot charts. I've found data for past seasons games, but the current season they aren't including X,Y locations in their game logs. For this year's data I recommend giving this chrome extension a shot. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nba-data-retriever/cibebblabkdibhnidfnipfnjkfbcmeha?hl=en Ryan Davis, the creator of http://nbashotcharts.com made this chrome extension. Here is Kyle Lowry's shot chart for this year. http://nbashotcharts.com/raw?id=1426702054 The #s in the chart match Basketball-Reference. SO the #s are correct. Is the shot chart right? Welp, I watch the Raptors closely and this shot chart passes the "smell test". IMO, this shot chart looks very much like Lowry's shooting tendencies. So we have a winner.
