With these kinds of software optimizations even a 60fps game can give very snappy input; the inconsistency and refresh time of a 60hz display is still a bit problematic, though. Playing at 60fps on 120hz+ adaptive sync should be super sharp, whereas it wasn't so much before - the loss of framerate caused a very perceptible slowing down of input registering which could throw off muscle memory.

In other news, I'm alive. I'm also rust incarnate at this point so I haven't made any scores worth recording.

Good to see at least some posts in the last few months ;P Gratz Varanice, strong improvement! Very small update from me. I don't think I've played in half a year or so (edit: maybe lying about this, just saw some scores from October), but started playing again yesterday out of boredom, now that Corona has shut everything down in the Netherlands. Had to work from home, and a few months ago gave away my monitor, so I had to buy a new one (partially paid by my boss). So a friend of mine recommended the Acer XF420H, so I could finally try out 120Hz (it's supposedly able to have 144hz, but I don't think my laptop can support that). I remember years ago having the discussion whether you could actually see the difference between a regular monitor and a 120+ Hz one. The difference is actually huge. Gigantic. The amount of details on my screen I can see now distract me while playing. I did change quite a few settings as well, so improved experience is partially due to that, but still. Difference between yesterday and today, or laptop screen and monitor, is the difference between feeling like rust incarnate, and actually pretty decent. I've even topped a few scores from june last year, arguably my best mania period. Taiko is pretty good as well, playing 5+ stars from the get go. Too bad my stamina is so bad, I can't even play LN Dan 3 anymore, without serious stamina issues. So I actually feel kind of motivated again, perhaps I can return to level of playing double helix and third eye, would be sick to play that and actually able to see everything.

It's a lot less of an issue for me because I play with such low scroll speeds to begin with but even at 14 it's noticeably nicer at 144 hz. I've been playing like maybe once or twice a month or so, which is very much not enough to keep my skill from getting worse, so I'm still getting worse and worse, but I have started to pick the game up again since the coronavirus shit started. I just got laid off from my job, so I'm gonna have a lot of free time in the next while. sorry to hear that man. My university has moved completely online. My comp sci professors seem to be at a complete loss for how to handle that, even though in theory it should be easier than most other courses. I haven't been fired from either of my two jobs but.. I'm not getting paid right now, which sucks a lot. Been playing a lot lately as well. Will probably post some fun stats/recap screenshots next week.

And technically I'm actually running at 165hz because my monitor OCs from 144 to 165. This is my first really decent PC, so I was used to getting sub 60fps in a lot of games before this. The difference from sub 60 to 165hz is just insane. Even just hitting like 90+ fps on stuff with settings cranked is pretty amazing compared to what I was used to before.

In my experience, 60 -> 144 hz had the biggest impact on my gameplay. 144 -> 240 hz didn't have as significant of an impact 60 to 144 is a +140% upgrade. 144 to 240 is a +67% upgrade. Proportionally it's just less than half as much so it wouldn't be expected to bring half as much improvement in the metrics that are proportional. It wouldn't be mathematically correct to expect any more from it. With a 2.0x step between each refresh rate, you can test 60 vs 120 vs 240. It scales as expected, some perceptional drop-off on metrics like input lag but many others are basically proportional (like sample-and-hold motion blur) With a 2.4x step, 144hz would be the halfway point between 60 and 346hz. We can't buy monitors that fast yet (aside from some prototypes with screwy overdrive that kinda makes it not worth..) but we will be able to soon! I have zero doubt that they'll make 144hz monitors look silly by comparison. Great to hear, Yorbon! :D

Even though it's probably difficult in the current situation, hope you'll find something soon! Apart from the monitor I talked about earlier, I've decided btw to get a complete new pc set-up. The average age of my current set-up parts is around 5+ years, so it's probably time. The goal is to get it ready in a few months, without spending too much $ on it. This time I'll get some advice on what to buy, though, before once again buying the worst model available The only thing I'll miss is my xornet II, it's half broken, but the shape is just perfect. Edit: Well, that was fast: + Show Spoiler + The dip was me rage quiting, only to see that I still had like 93% at that point. Edit2: Not that important, but ordered new pc today. Same friend that advised me on the buy will help with overclocking. Should be good enough for the next couple of years, considering intended use.
