One thing that you guys pointed out that is hugely important is the dumbing down of macro. Macro is such a crucial element in RTS games in general, and is part of what separates the good players from the great players. The idea of automating macro may be noob friendly, and help make the lower tier players much stronger, but is not a good idea overall. All these "AI improvements" to how macro is managed is the RTS equivalent of adding auto-aim to a FPS game to make it easier for noobs. Hopefully they make macro less automated, or figure out a way to make the macro side of the game more engaging, so that players need to focus on it. In general giving to much power to the AI is going to limit the ability for players to control units in specific and creative ways. However, on the other hand it seems to me that some of the opinions that people have on SC2 are based on the fact that they seem to feel like it is meant to be a recreation of BroodWar. Blizzard really only has two options; they can try to make a 'better' version of broodwar, or the can make significant changes that amount to a game that is equally as good but still very different. I don't think Blizzard is looking at SC2 as a replacement for BroodWar and its my hope that they intend to create a new experience with a similar feel. The tactics, strategies and builds from broodwar might hold some importance in SC2, but in reality, through years of competitive play and experimentation i believe the top tier pro players will be able to uncover deeper levels of play and new strats. Just because a game might be easy to learn doesn't mean it cant have deeper levels of play. On a final note im confident that Blizzard has the quality control to know when the game is ready to be released. SC2 is the first blizzard title that they have made which has focused on the multiplayer component befor the single player, which shows their seriousness about making SC2 a potent game in the world of competitive gaming. At some point the game will be ready for balance feedback and Blizzard will be ready to make the changes to make SC2 a supremely balanced game that is fun to play for both new players and highly skilled pro players. | ||
