There are no items to worry about, leveling is pretty straight forward, most heroes have a similar play-style within their role, instead of last hitting and denying creeps you literally just need to stand next to the wave and do nothing, games are shorter, and the objectives are essentially a signal to teamfight. What's the struggle?

But now that I quit DotA I enjoy playing HotS quite a lot. Really fun game where you can still gain an edge based on how good you are at the game. But being good is more like "understanding" the very basics of Mobas and understand the map. And there are plenty maps and heroes so if you can only play for like 3 hours each week you will find it challenging. You just have to come to terms that you need to focus only on like 4 things which 2 of have a very low skillcap instead of the way more things in DotA with an extremely high skill cap.

(If you don't believe me, just ask disformation.) can confirm. :p played dota 2 for a bit with a former roommate at some point, but by all means i have no real clue about the game. I think I have like 200 hours clocked in according to steam. dota 2 is imo one of the most complicated/high skill cap/hard to learn game ever. i mean i have 200 hours and can play like... lich and jakiro or something. badly. xD though that also was like 2 years ago, so by now I am probably to rusty for anything. played hots a bit at late beta/after release, but got bored of it after some time (think not enough heroes). came back some time after 2.0 just 2 days after the thing where you could get like 20 heroes for free ended, but i am enjoying it atm. Guess one of the big things for me is that the matches are way shorter. imo the difficulties in the switch are that hots has some surface level similarities to dota 2, but does basically everything differently. between there being no real laning phase/merc camps/objectives/soaking lane xp there is more movement on the map for everyone. team composition is different, positioning is different, hero roles are different (though those things are similar to LoL imo). and ofc you have to learn a ton of different new heroes and map specific strategies etc. finding heroes that are good and you enjoy takes a while, esp. since you need to unlock the fuckers (one thing i dont like in hots). so while dota 2 knowledge may help with like mechanical skill, the rest of the game is a completely new one. but yeah hots is way easier to learn overall.
