AKA sc, cs, war3, rpgs. From that list worms is probably the most fun. HoMM is a good series as well. I was completely serious about my first comment though. Edit: Don't pick up WoW.

- System Shock - Ultima 8 (or rather 7, if you have it) - Doom series. I think you can skip Wolfenstein 3D . You should make sure that you have Final Doom, there is extra content (TNT and Plutonia expansions). Also, you should play the Doom 2 Master Levels (from id too). If they aren't included in Final Doom already, that is. You should use zDoom or Doomsday Engine to play it, it's a modern game engine offering support for modern operating systems and several 3D accelerated features, high resolutions, 3D models, hi-res textures, accurate controls and so on... - Dune 2 (the father of the RTS games as we know them. And it had an excellent soundtrack for its time) - Commander Keen 4 (you just have to play it because of the Dopefish! Which makes an appearance in many newer id Software games. Playing part 4 only should be sufficient). - Ultima Underworld but only part 2 IMHO. UU was the first 3D RPG (not counting games like Dungeon Master here which look 3D but there's no free movement). - HoMM is a great game but part 3 (with both expansions) is the best, which isn't that old. - Eye of the Beholder series - XCOM/UFO series Not on your list but you have to know these: - Z (from 1996. this is a totally awesome RTS game everyone should know. It's extremely challenging even in single player. I never beat it. It's one of the best RTS ever, brilliant gameplay. It's also funny The main difficulty of the game is planning ahead. This REALLY matters a lot) - Wizardry 7 - Betrayal at Krondor

To my defense, I should say I got pretty far, like 80% through it. But the computer is just so damn strong, it's incredible. Part of this is because you can't just outmacro or outmicro him. It's a highly strategical game and the computer always does so many good decisions... it's like getting outplayed by superior game sense every time. Plus, in later levels the computer also starts with an advantage.

Cannon Fodder 1 or 2 - Guide around a group of soldiers and shoot. Dune 2 - To see what RTS was in the good old days. GTA - Because the two first ones were 10 times better than the new ones. Lemmings 2 - One of the better puzzle games. Master of magic - Plays out like a meld between civilization and HOMM. Monkey Island 1 and 2 - Classic adventure games. Syndicate - Plays out the same way as Cannon Fodder. UFO - You need to play this. There are other fun games in there, but these are games that I would recommend to someone who hasn't played a lot of games from that era.
