I'm not too sure if I actually did NOT post my previous thread, or if it was removed for seeming useless.
but I my thoughts on it was this new ping system.
I'm not saying remove it, it was a great idea, in a way giving the players some formal system of communicating in a formal military matter.
I will simply list a few defective things I've noticed
1. First the player is actually able to send a distress message that makes no sense,
as in Orange PLAYER wants to Protect BLUE enemy Nexus
2. The system, itself, compels the player to make a mouse movement, then select the correct icon signifying what they want to communicate. It, in itself is something the player wastes time trying to apply. It doesn't really feel like a swift and seamless act.
3. I literally, I don't even think I've ever responded to a message accurately,
By the time I've read it the location on the mini-map has already faded away, and I'm also thinking that they might have, in their panic chosen the wrong message anyway.
4. The message is something that must be read. Reading, and interpreting a written message can cost valuable game time. As you know in StarCraft II a second is some currency not to be wasted.
5. In the previous days, a player would simply ping, sometimes frantically and repeatedly clicking.
The sound, and the co-ordinate seen upon the radar ( minimap )
is enough to make their allies react immediately. If they clicked repeatedly then our attention would be caught.
The player shouldn't have to read, trying to piece together a written message.
They should rather navigate to the scene and observe what's going on. Observe through their knowledge of what is happening on the visible battle-field.
A players, ping, could simply be a request to lower a supply depot, or a friendly reminder that some SCV is standing idle.
If the player pings repeatedly it usually means something urgent is happening.
6. AND finally, when a ping is performed the player usually communicates, over chat what's going on.
Chat and typing is something that should be encouraged between players.
I don't want to sound all sentimental but I don't think this new advanced ping system is useful.
