SC2 Proleague Discontinued; SKT, KT, SGK, CJ disband - Pag…

Regardless of the situation, we will still action upon "dead game" comments. As this is a sensitive issue for SC2 fans, please do not come into this thread and talk about SC2 players switching over to BW. This thread is also not about bashing Blizzard, David Kim, or the WCS system.

So before you freak out hear me out. The biggest problem with the proleague format is that it was focused on the korean community and did very little to contribute to the global community. It was an old format that needed to be revised heavily. The fact that it was region locked only to korea limits other players from the rest of the world from playing. How does a bottom level player make his mark if he has to move to korea to really matter? I think a global proleague made up of sponsor teams from around the world would be 10x better driving more sponsors to enter the esport world of starcraft. Where I get my crazy ideas. Look at Shoutcraft Kings!!! It gets a lot more viewers than proleague ever did because it can have any player from any region. It can include anyone's favorite player and not just their favorite korean player. Why would the big sponsor companies want to support an event that only sells to a small % of people. I know red bull and monster wouldn't want to directly compete in a region locked sponsorship. The less region locked this game becomes only allows it to grow in other countries because future players will have more confidence that they can become a big time pro. Now you can hate my opinion TLDR: Global Proleague (please totalbiscuit make this happen) > Korean Proleague

I am actually confused at what stated SC2 is atm. On one hand side we have all these huge tournaments, especially recently with Chinese organizers throwing big money. On the other hand Korean scene seems to be under crisis. I think I will just focus on having fun from playing the game (considering 2 big patches are incoming - 3.7 and Balance Patch later) and watching Blizzcon, WESG and World Cyber Arena.

The market did its work, and the adjustment was made, rather than the constant band-aids to slow the bleeding. As long as people like SC2, it player will play, tournaments will be had, all will be well. Just have to be realistic, when there's a couple thousand viewers watching tournaments in Korea, and you're trying to support full teams and their houses, it's just not realistic. It's like me making a living from having a frequent 100 twitch viewers. If SC2 is your game and what makes you happy, just keep playing it, it'll never die as long as you're not the last one. People have played BW now for like 5 years even though there was almost no money in it (foreign scene), and heck, there was almost never any money in BW ever, and the love was there. Same thing with SC2, no reason to act entitled and how it should be, those things are determined with the popularity of your game, you can still have nice things even though it'll never be at the popularity of League, Dota, or CS.

SC2 had a good run, but to me it felt more based on pros and wishful thinking than anything else. I quit playing Blizzard games since WoL and probably won't be going back, ever. I still watched PL every week though. Was entertaining to watch and I wanted to lend my support regardless of how I personally felt about the games. I'm personally very frightened for CJ in this case. I don't want them to pull all their support from eSports, but their LoL team just dropped out of LCK and now their SC2 team is nonexistent. We need some good eSports news coming out of Korea soon. Well CJs team is run by OGN so there's that.
