Scan winning every single TLC cup, a Korean in a "Foreign BW Tournament", no matter how much people want to think that Scan being in it is going to raise the skill ceiling by his presence simply being here, you are wrong. In fact, you all couldn't be more wrong. Regardless, one Korean in a BW Foreign tournament winning every single one and then then the championship is not going to make people magically rise like phoenixes from the ashes in order to take the crown. People would have to literally learn to speak korean as you said, practice 8+ hours a day, and join a "SPONSORED PRO KOREAN TEAM" (LIKE SCAN IS NOW), but we aren't, we are foreigners, this is a FOREIGN tournament. A Korean in a Foreign tournament shouldn't be allowed, even if there is some ridiculously biased favoritism that was enabling scan to be able to play.
"Koreans are not allowed to play unless they are long time TL users and contribute to TL".
What? You should have Invited Sea[Shield] then.

you can assimilate, but not everyone can be next lebron/messi/woods ^^ but you correct that to be best you must mix with best scene

This is a false equivalency because there are so many variables in life that you cannot control, whereas if you run a competitive event, you make the rules and therefore, control the perimeters by which the competition is played.

let me make it more clear.
Patry still stands as the only non-korean champion... and it took a helluva lot more than just playing a lot of Starcraft. the best female goalie in the world had to leave finland, learn english and live 7,000 km away from home when she was 17... it took a lot more than raw talent to become #1.
the road they travelled was a lot tougher than the road Marie Philip Poulin or Lim Yo Hwan had paved in front of them. That is what i mean by life not being fair.

i did not discuss this in my post. my viewpoint is: the "executive producer"/"promoter" can set up whatever rules they want. its their event and their money.

most people like to know when these events are going on. If you don't, then im sorry for you. However, if YOU want to be taken seriously with this point i recommend two things
a) write your opinion, where it belongs! iccup.com You can't post this in some random blog and expect ICC staff to read and react to it.
b) express yourself in a civil way, then people will listen! As for your main point: i could see altering the /ann system, so /dnd blocks it, or introduce a special command like /dnd all which blocks it. If your playing announcements can be disturbing for the concentration, i know this.
But the decision is not mine, so pls post this where it is read by the appropriate admins.

Well, since we're always trying to find the biggest and most idiotic idiot to run the server, you should totally try. So far you're making a so underwhelming impression, showing such a great talent and apparently are willing to master any obstalce - really, please write your application. I think you will be head admin in no time, seems like you're the real deal.

whatever, iccup admins are like the Queen's Guard, you can flame them all day long and they don't move an inch. sorry, but i don't respect an organization that doesn't ban chileans and peruvians with 500MS from A/B tournies because "they're not lagging" (there's a reason why everyone bans them when they join lobbies...). i'm thankful for the functional server for the foreigner scene that refuses to learn korean, but as far as iccup administration on the server goes i couldn't have a lower opinion. your ad hominems certainly don't help (assuming you're an iccup admin, i don't know who else in their right mind would defend them)

lol seriously the reason why you don't play iccup is that iccup doesn't ban people from chile and peru? that's ridiculous.
Also, jimmyjraynor, I really can't agree with your claim that Giyom's success was caused by his korean assimilation. I don't know when you started following competitive brood war, but Giyom was basically the best player in the world before he went to Korea. He won PGL season 4 and the Brood War World Championship in 1999, two of the absolutely biggest tournaments that year, and went to Korea in early 2000.
Additionally, it's not like Korea was really dominant during this era anyway. I'd argue that in 1999, there were more top players outside Korea than inside Korea - this changes for sure in 2000 though, and might not have been true at the end of 99 either. Slayer won KBK in 2000 as well - this was an era where nonkorean players actually could compete with the Koreans. If the OSL Giyom won had had 50% koreans and 50% the best players from outside Korea, it easily could have been a nonkorean final.

in fact Giyom is a funny example to use because you could just as well argue that his assimilation into Korean culture and learning the language is what caused his brood war downfall lol
