I have a love/hate relationship with the internet.
I love that the internet gives everyone a voice. I hate that everyone assumes that theirs is a voice of authority and importance and not that of someone who still has to ask his mom's permission to spend the night at his buddy's house.
I love that that the internet makes so much information readily available. A thoughtful person can find good arguments for both sides of an issue and make his own, personal decision. Unfortunately, not many people are thoughtful and will instead seek out only that information that reaffirms their existing beliefs. I hate that the internet gives people comfort in ignorance.
Your typical internet discussion would be demonstrated by two actors sitting at a table. These men would then proceed to vomit all over the table, stare confused and bewildered at their vomit, and then proceed all over again until one of them gets up from the table or one of them runs out of puke. There is a barrier to personal communication here that makes it way too easy to dismiss people, insult them, and perpetuate in blissful idiocy.
So I suppose my problem isn't so much with the internet, this incredible tool, but rather with how people choose to use it - to complete their thesis and finally receive their PhD in stupid.
Posting at TL is proving to only make me angry. And you won't like me when I'm angry.
Time to get up from the table.

Well of course you will need to find one that deals with your interests, but, for example, I've found goldismoney.info is has a lot of interesting points of view and most of the members are in their 40's - 60's (its mainly about money, as the name would suggest). I would be very interested finding other "mature" forums.
