For those that are not familiar, WGI is the umbrella organization for competitive indoor music ensembles for both color guard and percussion, for both scholastic (Middle/High School), and independent groups (generally college-age). Think marching band, but without horns and inside a basketball gym rather than a football field. The productions encompass a theme, with the music, staging, and costumes being centered around that theme. This leads to a wide variety of shows from each group every year.
The group I am a part of is Vanguard Winter Percussion, which is the newest group in the prestigious Santa Clara Vanguard organization of Drum Corps International. Last year, the ensemble placed 9th in finals, jumping 12 places from the previous season since getting bumped from Independent Open class to World class.
For percussion units, the age limit is 22, or 23 after April 1 of a given competitive year. As such, this will be my first, and unfortunately only year as a performer in a winter ensemble.
I'm looking to see if there are any TLers involved in the activity. Is anyone instructing/performing? I've always been curious about this, I've just been really shy about it :3
In any case, I'm going to give it my all, and hopefully I can end this season with no regrets\
