ESL has just announced that the ESL One tournament in Katowice, Poland will serve as the first major of the year. ESL One Katowice will be ran from March 12th to 15th and will of course feature a $250,000 prize pool. With 16 teams in the tournament, 8 teams, known as the Legends, have already been invited do to their recent performance at Dreamhack Winter.
Legends
Fnatic, HellRaisers, Navi, NiP, Penta, TSM, LDLC, Virtus.Pro
the rest of the 8 slots will be up for grabs in the upcoming qualifers which will be in several regions.
Qualifers start next week on Sunday, the 25th. There will be 2 general European qualifiers, 2 Polish only qualifers, a CIS qualifer and 1 North American qualifers that will be running in the next couple of weeks. Also note that besides the online qualifiers, there will also be offline qualifers at the summation of the online qualifiers as the winners of the online qualifers will join invited teams to the offline LAN qualifer event to determine who will be the last 8 teams to join the Legends for the main event. More details about the qualifiers can be found here.
Entry to the event is free and tickets for extra perks can be purchased here

heres to hoping the team stickers will be similar to the previous katowice stickers, all the other majors have had some pretty awful looking stickers in comparison

This is huge. There will be offline qualifiers as well to avoid any potential issues that online brings. And what's also huge is that if you reach top 8 of a major now, you're directly seeded into the next one instead of having to go through both online and offline qualifiers as well

Aaah I kind of wished that the world finals would be Katowice. We had two in a row so I guess we can't be that greedy but those tournaments were awesome!
