Those new matches rail917 uploaded are all pretty good, but this one was by far the best: AHF - 殿 (Plant(o_O) Lilica) vs Dish Rag (Time Kamui) Almost every round of this game is a close one, especially the last round. Enjoy . + Show Spoiler [the match] + The Lilica player really impressed me. The Plant Arcana didn't seem very useful, but it's cool to see something other than Lightning or Time for a change. I really liked his double crossups, where he does that fast air move over the other guy's head (crossup), then dashes back (double crossup). He does it repeatedly and it works every time. By the way, can anyone translate his name, 殿? Judging from Google Translate, it seems to mean "ass muscles" . Edit: looks like someone else on Nico Video uploaded a different set of matches from the same casuals that these vids are from (url to search for Arcana vids on Nico Video). There were some really close matches among them. Hopefully someone will upload them on Youtube later.

Chinta[Ken] vs Vanao[Ryu] + Show Spoiler + don't taunt Vanao! I was impressed by the last part of the 2nd round, when Vanao launches 2 consecutives denijn hadouken. Didn't know it was possible to charge energy so fast and build Ken's stun meter too.

On the topic of Kuroda, my friend Yang finally got Kuroda's DVDs imported from asia. I got to see only some of the games before he dragged me back to play 3s, but they were very good. The only letdown was that his opponents' names weren't shown, and many of them didn't look top-class (I did see him beat RX with Ryu, though). Nevertheless, I saw him using Hugo, and Kuroda playing Hugo is scary. Rule 1: you cannot dash in on Kuroda's Hugo: he will grab you with a 360 before your dash even finishes! (and this is Ken's dash I'm talking about, here) Rule 2: you cannot do block strings against Kuroda's Hugo. He tries to red parry the second hit of EVERY block string, and has a pretty good success rate. If he gets the red parry, you get 360'd or 720'd. So Kuroda is content to just sit there in the corner and block all day (and he blocks 99% of everything). All you can do is 1-hit pokes from a distance (which all get blocked). You can't dash-in or else you get thrown. You can't do more than 1 hit or else you get red-parried. I really don't know how you'd get any kind of offensive going against him. Not surprisingly, he racked up a 64-win streak with Hugo. I'm not even sure whether his opponents weren't that great, or whether he was just too good >_<. Another interesting piece of info: of the all-but-6 characters Kuroda played in those DVDs, guess who his two worst characters were? (note: he didn't use Sean, Yun, Chun Li, Ibuki, Remy, or... someone else) + Show Spoiler + His worst was Necro, and his 2nd-worst was Makoto O_O. After I found that out, I actually played with Ken for the rest of the night T___T;;. On another note, apparently Kuroda refuses to play Chun Li, because she is too strong. Lastly, he does not want these videos to be uploaded to Youtube or any other online sites. Considering their limited availability/distribution (sold at his local arcade only) and his wishes, I guess it's not surprising that they haven't turned up on Youtube yet. I don't understand why he says that (e.g. the DVDs aren't even sold for a profit), and I disagree with it, but if I owned a copy then I would respect his wishes. Hopefully someone will convince him to change his mind, or something =P. (Note: all of this info is probably 3rd- or 4th-hand at this point, so I can't actually guarantee any of it is true. Except for his play and ownage (and lack thereof with Makoto T_T) in the videos, which I actually saw first-hand.)

It was crazy how he was punishing whiffed moves on reaction with lp-dash punch.

I assume he meant charging meter. Looking back on it, you're probably right. The 2 denjin 'combo' wasn't a single string though, after the first denjin to the face, ken jumps (??), takes A fierce to the face, then falls and gets up dizzied. eats a combo, then blocks 2 moves before another denjin is up. Actually loaded up SF3 to check ryu's meter growth, and even blocked jab shoryus give between 1/5th to 1/4th of a bar, and shorts get around 1/6th of a bar. That's pretty ridiculous. At first glance, the lack of yun in kuroda's list set me off, but now I kinda agree with him. Denjin setups seem a wee bit scarier than genei jins, even at lower levels of play.

Dead or Alive 4 (Xbox 360) How to play: + Show Spoiler + First I wanted to introduce the reversal system which could be somewhat complex and a bit challenging to master but once you get it down things begin to get really interesting. Here is a link to the combat basics: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/d/deadoralive4/20060105-combatstrategy.htm And an example vid with some good use of the reversals(Most of the vids I will post in here aren't the best quality I know the game is fast but it could be the just the way they were recorded): (Good example of the countering at 0:20 seconds) Some Tips: + Show Spoiler + For anyone really interested in getting into Dead or Alive 4 here are some tips: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/d/deadoralive4/20060116-survivaltips.htm Can't get enough Dead of Alive 4? Here are some links to see more vids: + Show Spoiler + I'll Constantly edit this entry, just had to rush a bit this Lap top can't stay on forever And I will also post the latest tournament vids and feel free to add your own interesting vids as well.

Advantage and throw punishing + Show Spoiler + Just like any 3d or 2d fighter, after you throw a move but whiff or are blocked you cannot throw a move right away for a certain number of frames. In DOA4 a throw is very fast (usually) and also can't be counter held. Most throws go out at about 10-15 frames, this means that any string or move that ends in a -10 frame disadvantage or more can be throw punished on block. Generaly speaking the ability to recoginize and capitalize throw chances are what seperates ok players from good ones. The best throw to use to punish -15 or more for hayate is df df thrw, and for regular -10 to -13 situations just f thrw. if you totaly read the guy you are playing you can be tricky and go for the most beastly command throw in DOA.... the Raijin. here's a video to show how it's done: Strings and pokes + Show Spoiler + Most moves in DOA4 are actualy a string of moves in a set sequence, the simplest for any char is usually PPP, or the jab string. In hayate's case this hits high high mid. the first two punches are a great poke, and you can quickly cancel the string by pressing free (thus breaking the string). this technique is called free canceling and is used often at high level in order to make countering harder and avoiding the large disadvantage at the end of many strings. Another strong poke is fP. this is a mid hit which stuns on counter hit, and if you do land it on counter you can imediately go into a launcher/throw mixup. and one more workhorse string is P,dK,K, which hits high low low. Which can be mixed up with P, dK, F, dTHRW. which catches anyone trying to anticipate the end of the string above but also ducks under any highs if they try to throw/jab. there's a ton others but i use those three most in my poke game. no good vid to illustrate this...i should make one ;p juggles + Show Spoiler + Juggles are very important in DOA4 since you can't counter hold if you are mid air. This means any juggle you do is 100% safe once they are launched. Most launchers only throw the foe in the air if you hit on counter or if you hit a stuned foe. after they are in the air the ammoun of air time they get is dependent on how deep the stun is (you can hit a guy up to 5 times in stun before they simply fall down) and varies by character. The best launchers for hayate are: uP, mid launches on counter or stun. bKK, high high, launches on ANYTHING. once in the air some easy enders are: PP,bPP simple and lots of dmg PPP,buK slightly more dmg, worse spacing. uP, PP,bPP slight wrinkle on the basic juggle. this is of course the tip of the iceberg, here's a hayate combo vid, watch how he builds stun then launches to get more hight. still in a real match launching asap is often the way to go since people will throw out counters in hopes of catching the launcher. GG's + Show Spoiler + none for now, i'll update it soon

3s - Pledge (YA), Tokido (CH) vs Shuutetsu (YU), Ochibi (YU) I can only vaguely remember the last time I saw a Yang this beastly. And I think it was the same guy back then, too ^^. + Show Spoiler [the 2v2] + 3s - Three "best bouts" from the Champion cup in Saitama Amazing play by YSB and RX. YSB shows off his "720-button" . There's also a Ken player who actually taunts RX repeatedly in their first match... + Show Spoiler [the bouts] + On a related note, I saw a new AHF video on Nico Video where Hayao does a standing 720 with Kira. It's the first time I've seen anyone do it in AHF. Getting back to 3s, to date, I don't know of anyone besides Hayao, YSB, and (I believe) Kuroda who can do a standing 720 in 3s.

Still up in the air about who to main, though. I memorized most of the special attacks with with May (hitting people with whales is too much fun!), but I still dont know how to combo all that well yet. Any suggestions? We are playing on a ps2 (and will never be playing on anything else) if that makes a difference. Also, I am more of a defensive oriented player. Edit: Oh, and on a side note, I am going to a SSBM tournament tomorrow hosted by my school I'm going to main Ice Climbers/second Sheik and expect to get in the top 3, so it should be pretty fun ^^
