Well I decided to buy some butane gas and use my burner for the first time ever because my roommates and I were going to grill some meat tonight.
I watched a YouTube video demonstration on how to put the gas in and turn the stove on. So after I did all the steps, I decided it was time to turn the heat on. There was a weird hissing noise coming from the burner but I thought to myself "oh, well that's probably nothing."

THE WHOLE EFFING THING CAUGHT ON FIRE!!!!
I freaked out like a little girl... Luckily, I was able to get the burner off before it burned the whole effing house down...
So since I had no idea what happened, I started inspecting the burner to see what I had done wrong. That's when I noticed the WARNING label. AND IT SPECIFICALLY SAID NOT TO TURN THE HEAT ON IF YOU HEAR A HISSING NOISE BECAUSE THAT INDICATES A GAS LEAK.
Sigh... I'm an effing retard...
Wish me luck TL, God knows I need it -___-;;

oh wow, glad things are fine. Guess moral of the story is to check and read everything about any new appliances. BTW, think you can give you more details? Did this take place in the kitchen? The hissing sound is definitely a telltale sign though.

I just did it on top of the dining table in the dining room. I did clean it earlier today with disinfecting wipes and paper towels. Would that affect it somehow?
UPDATE:
Turns out the burner was old and broken. So I went out and bought a new one. My roommates and I had a fantastic meal afterwards. We feasted like Kings
