Anyway it's so hard to be consistant in SC2 these days. Just look at all these n°1 protoss. Anyone remember Dear being called the best player by the end of 2013 ? :p It moves too fast to call someone better than another. Yeah, I wish the game had greats like brood war. I wonder why they all fall and not one person conquers. Maybe because balance is dictated by Blizzard moreso than maps? Even when there is no changes by blizzard, people just fall off hard. Maybe when the game will be "perfectly" balanced, we will see big dominance. But BW was way more mechanically based than sc2. In SC2 you can be on the top without being a macro god. Look at sOs or Polt for instance, both of them aren't really spectacular in micro and macro. I doubt they would have ever performed in BW. uuh + Show Spoiler [sOs bw tlpd] +http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/details.php?section=korean&type=players&id=1101&part=main&include_standard_leagues=1&include_special_events=1&include_offline_events=1
That's correct but not stellar. I might have overcommit by saying never performed but my point was, he would never reach the level where he is now.

holy shit, Maru finally did it?! 0.0
good for him! I might just have some gsl to still watch

He basically had one year with a 70% winrate against korean opponents, that will never be reached again, he deserves special recognition for it imo. But obviously the competition now is WAY harder

Err, he did not. But for the sake of not derailing the conversation, success and consistency is highly dependant on the current meta and map pool imo. By highly I mean high high. herO just couldn't lose to terrans on yeonsu. Dear handled his lategame army very well before ghost and widow mine changes, blink play was one of his main strengths aswell.

Bomber is Bomber so sometime he is the best player in the world, sometime he is weaker than me :3. I personnaly think that players like Reality, Fantasy or Cure are ahead of them too. Really, I'd say Maru > Innovation = Taeja >>> the rest. Beside those three, I don't see any terran winning a championship soon.
Innovation < Taeja and it's not even close. I wouldn't say Maru or Taeja is better than the other.

In terms of most consistently dominant it's more these top players go into monster mode and rape, then drop a bit. Beneath that you have guys who are always there or thereabouts but don't explode.
For Terrans in the last while you had Taeja wrecking, Inno showing up at the end of wings and first months of HoTs, Maru for the last bit and with the ascension of one the predecessor drops off a bit. Bubbling slightly below that (nowadays) are the Bombers and the Polts who can win anything on their day, but are less liable to stomp everyone on an extended period.
With Protoss see Dear, now Zest, with Rain and Parting sticking around but peaking less.
I would lose my shit if a bunch of these guys peaked at the same time, it'd be monstrous. Sometimes I think it's just mental fatigue, sometimes it's clearly patches having an influence too. Innovation showed the best Biomine play ever seen, no coincidence that his play dropped a bit with the mine nerf. Maru's midgame tempo style of TvP benefits more from the +shield damage than say a Taeja who plays for the lategame.
These guys are all monsters, just it's nigh on impossible to maintain dominance in SC2 while balance changes and yes, the mechanical margins are more compressed than in BW. As the game is easier, so it is harder as individual engagements and decisions take on more importance, getting everything right consistently is hard as fuck.

is this an incontrol quote, or is this incontrol's smurf account?

I always feel that when people bring up MVP, there should be a question mark of how dominant he could've been if it hadn't been for his wrists. At his peak, he was beating basically everyone else who was at the top (except mma, who lived in his head). Then wrists struck and he disappeared for a bit, and then back to back get finals, winning one. Doesn't matter if the competition is harder now, who knows how well he could've been without the injury? Even with it, still made it a 4th gel title.
And I it still boggles me that people compare taeja to maru. They are 2 different players. Maru plays amazing in prep style tournie (gsl, wcs) and taeja plays well at 3-4 day tournie (dh, hsc) s. And he has wrist injuries (ie practising for a specific opponent over and over not as easy perhaps?). I put more merit in gsl style, but then again its much like MVP. What I'd wrists weren't injured?
Objectively, I would rank it maru> Taeja~inno. (depending on form) and then bbyong.

Really love watching Maru's games. There's always a twist in a series, different builds brought onto each games, keeps his opponent's guessing. Imo if he approached this series with normal macro bio mines/hellbat builds it would be on soulkey's favour.
Personally i think last week cheese mode followed by no cheese at all today was brilliant move by Maru.

I just wanted to say I liked the banner, even more funny seeing all your reactions :D
and Zest looks cute hahahaha

Where can you see the vod? Anyone knows? Gotta watch the Maru vs SK, couldnät watch it because of work :'(

Didn't Mvp went on full on mech during his last GSL final againts Life (god mode then) because of his wrist injury? Not sure if its true, but it makes sense since mech takes easier on his wrist with a slower pace game than bio. He almost won that game with 4-3 score.
Could Mvp wrist problem cause him to practice less since then which lead to him no performing that well these days? Maybe
All in all i think he's the most accomplished sc2 player to date. Hope Maru can achieve similar or better eventually.

On another note: Maybe this is why Maru performed so "terriable" in PL; as his focus was on Soulkey, and Soulkey alone. Personally I agree with this choice; it both payed off, and he managed to shake off some old ghosts
