Important: Date Changes!
Due to an unforeseen change of events, the SCII people / the oldschool tournament will be postponed. The new date will be the 10th May, 20:00 CET. The German King of the Hill (Cryoc vs. kab) will be played on 4th of May, 20 CET.
Stream: InstarcraftTV
It's been a while since Cele came up with the idea to host a somewhat regular show for German speaking players - our German King of the Hill. In the first episode Cryoc challenged the self proclaimed "King" ReY. The Kingslayer then defended his throne against TEH, whom we saw in the ILME Round of 16. Twice Cryoc could not really be taken down - maybe this changes.
The next episode will air in the evening hours of next Sunday, the 4th May. This event will feature tons of oldschool players. For the highlight of the evening Cryoc has to face none other than ips.Kab. If you're not German you might not really know him, however, we do. Kab used to be an active asset to the German B National Team, as well as its manager in the years before beta. He started to prepare somewhat like a month ago, already beat the previous challenger TEH in some of these training games and is up for no good.
iFU.Cryoc vs. ips.Kab
<Fighting Spirit>
<Circuit Breaker>
<Electric Circuit>
<Sniper Ridge>
<Tau Cross>
<Jade>
<Overwatch>
Personally, I'm thrilled to see Kab back in action, I remember him from his high quality IRC #broodwar.de staff channel quotes. Seriously, I really do miss the time. Then again, Cryoc is no push over and currently among the stronger foreign Terrans. Old vs. New, Take 1.
waschito: warum wählst du azalea gegen nen zerg?
kab: weil ich fe spielen wollte und ihn mit meinem monster makro killn wollte
kab: aber ich hab mich dann ned getraut fe zu spielen, weil ich dachte er poolt

As far as the mode goes - nothing will be changed. It's still a best of five, two maps will be voted out. One small change: 25 Euros are reserved for the winner, sponsored by clans.de. Keep this in mind. Do you know this page? No? Check its staff, there is someone you should know. If you don't, you're an idiot and have no idea of foreign Brood War. More to that later. Oh, the excitment.
Oldschool Tournament - 75€
Hold on to your seats, this is where it's getting awesome: Broodwar.de also hosts an all-Protoss four player single elimination tournament with four really big names. There are 75 Euros on the line for the winner, so it's not going to be just a row of outdated players fighting. Without further ado, here are the participants:
ips.Radio (TLO)
To start off with the "newschool" player of the tournament, I'd pick TLO. He's probably known to many StarCraft II fans, as he started out as one of the most successful foreigners shortly after the Beta. I really didn't follow the scene, but I was told he is a really huge name. In Brood War he wasn't that bad either. The Protoss apparently was on the verge of making it to the international top class shortly before the WoL Beta, had some decent records in leagues like the BWCL and was already part of the German National Team. However, there were others just as good as him. He's probably one of the favourites to take the small prize, given that he's still rather active in SCII and kept on training Brood War until the foreign scene broke down.
Socke[pG]
Now it gets increasingly harder to not write with a massive bias. Socke used to be one of my favourite players back in the day. He participated in WCG 2002 together with one of the other participants. In the golden days of foreign Brood War Socke was considered to be a huge talent of the German scene, despite his young age. He was part of pro Gaming's German wing, member of the German National Team for more than two years, regularly fought in the German premier events, such as the Giga Grand Slams. His skill was rather high, he really was top class - especially his Reaver control was brilliant. He used to kill thousands of Probes with a single Reaver before he flew them into a stray Photon Cannon for no reason ever. Seriously, look out for him. Just like TLO Socke also still plays SCII on a fairly high level. Last time I saw Socke was in late 2010, where he raped me 3-0 in PvP after not having played for more than five years. I was C back then. I seriously hope he maintained that level, or at least did not forget how to micro down any Protoss with his Reavers.
iv.GoOdy
The third one to join the tournament is GoOdy. He started out as mucho player and was known to mass games whenever he could. He was active since the dawn of time and did well even in the early days. He was not really a push over, played for the German National Team and won several LANs. However, it took a while since the Terran stepped up his game. Around 2007 he switched to Protoss and that's when he made his final break through, at least in my eyes. It didn't take long until he did not only do well in the German scene, but showed his talent during bigger tournaments, like the WCG 2007, in which he made it to the Round of 8. In the TSLs he would've qualified twice with an A- rank, but for some reason he resetted his stats. Nevermind that. He probably was the strongest German Protoss shortly before the Beta.
FiSheYe[pG]
FiSheYe is a name you have to know and the guy to probably thank for the 100€. Nowadays he runs the project clans.de. Back in 2002 he dominated the German scene. He won so many WCG Nationals, that it's hard to list all his achievements. He also was the only foreigner to almost beat a Korean in a WCG Grand Finals - 1-2, the runner-up of WCG 2003. It's hard to decide what to pick to promote this exceptional foreigner. The silver medal is a must, but how to describe his contributions to strategy? His stellar micro? Him being the killer he was? Seriously, FiSheYe is a legend.
To read more on FiSheYe's dominance, a glimpse on Socke's skill and the history of their clan - progaming - I recommend to read the article Duel of the Fates.
Mode
The mode will be a best of three for each round. Winner advances, loser is out. Easy as that. When exactly this is going to be casted is not sure yet. The stream will be up in the evening hours next Sunday, before or after the German KOTH game. I'd recommend to watch out for a calendar entry!
Maps: Fighting Spirit, Lost Temple, Outsider, Circuit Breakers, Sniper Ridge (2 Vetoes for every Round)
Disclaimer: I have nothing do to with this event. All thanks should be directed at broodwar.de & clans.de for money / structure, Cele for the KOTH and the Tournament, as well as to Gundalf - and all the other helpers, players and so on.
