Important: Date Changes!

Due to an unforeseen change of events, the SCII people / the oldschool tournament will be postponed. The new date will be the 10th May, 20:00 CET. The German King of the Hill (Cryoc vs. kab) will be played on 4th of May, 20 CET.

Stream: InstarcraftTV

It's been a while since Cele came up with the idea to host a somewhat regular show for German speaking players - our German King of the Hill. In the first episode (Wiki)Cryoc challenged the self proclaimed "King" ReY. The Kingslayer then defended his throne against TEH, whom we saw in the (Wiki)ILME Round of 16. Twice Cryoc could not really be taken down - maybe this changes.

The next episode will air in the evening hours of next Sunday, the 4th May. This event will feature tons of oldschool players. For the highlight of the evening Cryoc has to face none other than ips.Kab. If you're not German you might not really know him, however, we do. Kab used to be an active asset to the German B National Team, as well as its manager in the years before beta. He started to prepare somewhat like a month ago, already beat the previous challenger TEH in some of these training games and is up for no good.

Personally, I'm thrilled to see Kab back in action, I remember him from his high quality IRC #broodwar.de staff channel quotes. Seriously, I really do miss the time. Then again, Cryoc is no push over and currently among the stronger foreign Terrans. Old vs. New, Take 1.

waschito: warum wählst du azalea gegen nen zerg?

As far as the mode goes - nothing will be changed. It's still a best of five, two maps will be voted out. One small change: 25 Euros are reserved for the winner, sponsored by clans.de. Keep this in mind. Do you know this page? No? Check its staff, there is someone you should know. If you don't, you're an idiot and have no idea of foreign Brood War. More to that later. Oh, the excitment.

Oldschool Tournament - 75€

Hold on to your seats, this is where it's getting awesome: Broodwar.de also hosts an all-Protoss four player single elimination tournament with four really big names. There are 75 Euros on the line for the winner, so it's not going to be just a row of outdated players fighting. Without further ado, here are the participants:

      ips.Radio (TLO)

To start off with the "newschool" player of the tournament, I'd pick TLO. He's probably known to many StarCraft II fans, as he started out as one of the most successful foreigners shortly after the Beta. I really didn't follow the scene, but I was told he is a really huge name. In Brood War he wasn't that bad either. The Protoss apparently was on the verge of making it to the international top class shortly before the WoL Beta, had some decent records in leagues like the (Wiki)BWCL and was already part of the German National Team. However, there were others just as good as him. He's probably one of the favourites to take the small prize, given that he's still rather active in SCII and kept on training Brood War until the foreign scene broke down.

      Socke[pG]

Now it gets increasingly harder to not write with a massive bias. Socke used to be one of my favourite players back in the day. He participated in (Wiki)WCG 2002 together with one of the other participants. In the golden days of foreign Brood War Socke was considered to be a huge talent of the German scene, despite his young age. He was part of (Wiki)pro Gaming's German wing, member of the German National Team for more than two years, regularly fought in the German premier events, such as the Giga Grand Slams. His skill was rather high, he really was top class - especially his Reaver control was brilliant. He used to kill thousands of Probes with a single Reaver before he flew them into a stray Photon Cannon for no reason ever. Seriously, look out for him. Just like TLO Socke also still plays SCII on a fairly high level. Last time I saw Socke was in late 2010, where he raped me 3-0 in PvP after not having played for more than five years. I was C back then. I seriously hope he maintained that level, or at least did not forget how to micro down any Protoss with his Reavers.

      iv.GoOdy

The third one to join the tournament is (Wiki)GoOdy. He started out as mucho player and was known to mass games whenever he could. He was active since the dawn of time and did well even in the early days. He was not really a push over, played for the German National Team and won several LANs. However, it took a while since the Terran stepped up his game. Around 2007 he switched to Protoss and that's when he made his final break through, at least in my eyes. It didn't take long until he did not only do well in the German scene, but showed his talent during bigger tournaments, like the (Wiki)WCG 2007, in which he made it to the Round of 8. In the TSLs he would've qualified twice with an A- rank, but for some reason he resetted his stats. Nevermind that. He probably was the strongest German Protoss shortly before the Beta.

      FiSheYe[pG]

(Wiki)FiSheYe is a name you have to know and the guy to probably thank for the 100€. Nowadays he runs the project clans.de. Back in 2002 he dominated the German scene. He won so many WCG Nationals, that it's hard to list all his achievements. He also was the only foreigner to almost beat a Korean in a WCG Grand Finals - 1-2, the runner-up of (Wiki)WCG 2003. It's hard to decide what to pick to promote this exceptional foreigner. The silver medal is a must, but how to describe his contributions to strategy? His stellar micro? Him being the killer he was? Seriously, FiSheYe is a legend.

To read more on FiSheYe's dominance, a glimpse on Socke's skill and the history of their clan - progaming - I recommend to read the article Duel of the Fates.

Mode

The mode will be a best of three for each round. Winner advances, loser is out. Easy as that. When exactly this is going to be casted is not sure yet. The stream will be up in the evening hours next Sunday, before or after the German KOTH game. I'd recommend to watch out for a calendar entry!

Maps: Fighting Spirit, Lost Temple, Outsider, Circuit Breakers, Sniper Ridge (2 Vetoes for every Round)

Disclaimer: I have nothing do to with this event. All thanks should be directed at broodwar.de & clans.de for money / structure, Cele for the KOTH and the Tournament, as well as to Gundalf - and all the other helpers, players and so on.

OMG FiSheYe!

I remember watching his reps when i just started playing BW online in like 2004. For some reason I remember him as a 2v2 player (probably because I saw some of his 2v2 replays and they stuck with me). Him and BrEaKdOwN were my favorite German players, which reminds me, hopefully we see BrEaKdOwN in one of these events soon. I thought he was still playing BW sporadically.

Even if I cannot tell you for sure, but chances that BrEaKdOwN will play are not small. Maybe not in the next two events, but it is definitly possible

Somebody wanna help clarify this for me

If I reading it wrote he hopes cast won't be in English. Which make sense because it's a German event. However the reasoning seems to be even though he knows you want to reach as big of an audience as possible...and then I get confused.

Can't tell if the next part means that he is worried the caster won't be fluent enough at English and people won't like it, or the German audience is not fluent enough in English to enjoy such a cast and it will scare of German viewers.

Or maybe that's all wrong and I'm just super terrible at German.

your German is not terrible at all it seems. Here is the translation for you and who else might care:

Revenger wrote:
Just please don't cast in "English" (indicating it's not proper English). I'm aware you want to reach more people by doing so and i don't want to insult the Casters, but if the English isn't fluent, it deters more (people), than it helps (with the viewer count).

To answer that Question: We don't know yet. We're aware our English is far from perfect, as none of us is a native speaker, but on the other hand we wish not to exclude somebody from the Cast by speaking German.

Of course the event was created with the German sub scene in mind, but it should be accessible for everybody else as well.

I have thought about this issue for some time now and haven't come up with a better idea than this:

Poll: Which language would you prefer for the Koth cast?

Gernan, im german speaking (23)

34%

english, i dont speak german (18)

27%

german, i dont speak german but i don't mind (8)

12%

english, i speak german but i prefer/dont mind english casting (18)

27%

67 total votes

Your vote: Which language would you prefer for the Koth cast?

(Vote): Gernan, im german speaking
(Vote): english, i dont speak german
(Vote): german, i dont speak german but i don't mind
(Vote): english, i speak german but i prefer/dont mind english casting

Find someone who can cast the entire tourney in Korean, that will be the best solution.

Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Im sorry guys, but we're not planing to work with secondary streams for the event (;

It's fine it was just an offer since the event is pretty cool and rare. What I don't get is why you are treating this as something exclusive to German starcraft fans. Are there sponsors for this that we are at risk of offending? Like most Korean stuff we could always restream a day later instead of live if its about sharing the spotlight.

I've spoken with both Bakuryu and Gecko, and they both have perfect English. They might say their English isn't that good, but their grasp of the English language is pretty fucking good.

well, i was a bit unsure what the sponsor would think about it, but i found out they wouldnt mind. But mainly, we havent decided yet, in which language we're casting. I prefer casting in English in order to not exclude anybody. And Judging from the vote results, the majority does prefer english casting. In the case, me and Redwarrior cast in english, we don't really need a second stream. On the other hand, if we decide to cast in German it makes perfect sense to have a second stream in english, i agree to you and then we'd all be happy if you and L_Master do it.

We just havent decided on that yet. I realize now my answer above was a bit abrupt and obviously lacked an explanaition, so sorry for that :>

€: Final Pow-Wow of the planning group just finished, we decided to cast in german. So if you guys are still interested, id would be nice to have you on board

But in that case, we wouldn't need tweo streams.

But if we cast in german, there is of course absolutely no reason to have no second stream in english.

I had to read that last statement twice, in order to get it right. There are so many negations in that sentence.. haha :-D

And still only 23 votes. The most importants votes are English cast 8 vs 7 German cast. I'm not quite sure, if that's really representitive.

1. I am not involved in this project
2. I don't give a shit about US people. Why is it you dumbfucked Americans think it's about you when it's not. Most Germans wanted to have a German cast, because we did not have a cast in our language for longer than six years by now. Got it?

Gecko go easy. Patrick offered to cast the event and im glad about it. It gave us the perfect opportunity to have a stream in both languages. No harm done.

the second game between kab and cryoc was a little bit... strange.
terran had thousands of mine and facs, all of them not being used while protoss attacked.
i don't know, people got nervous in some situations, but this game was really really strange.

Allright folks, get ready for this Staurday 20 CET, as we are going to bring you fisheye, Socke, TLO and Goody for some epicness.]

Hopefully, Bisudagger will accompany us again and provide the english stream, so that Redwarrior and myself can cast in german.

I might have seen also a couple of the guys online playing and they're surely catching up to their old skills fast (;

we are talking about past = firstly he isn't oldschool, secondly he wasn't even good so better watch your mouth!

Pike you don't get the point of the event...

Maybe you are longer in the scene than a few of them, but that doesn't care. That's not the meaning of "oldschool" in this case.

Roa-radio is very oldschool. He never was really good or wellknown though. He played bw for a long time and pretty early. I am not sure but when i played from 1999 till 2006 (i think he started something around 2001 or 2002) he was kind of active too. Playing mainly on a BWCL-3 team though (RoA). He later joined IPS in 2008 or 2009? Not sure about that, that was after i quitted bw.
