Most of you have probably noticed by now that there have been noticeable changes to the site in recent days. I will try to explain the reforms that are being carried out by the staff right now.
1. New Staff
Chill has voiced his frustration with the strategy forum for quite some time now, a sentiment shared by many who frequent this section of TL.net. It took a good deal of time to get things moving, but Chill has been promoted to moderator with a strong emphasis on improving the quality of both strategy material and user conduct in the section.
He is in the process of drafting a revamped Code of Conduct for the Strategy section, and would like you guys to make your voices heard in suggesting ideas to make the forums more efficient, productive and well mannered.
There are additional things being planned for the strategy forum in order to aid Chill and other mods carrying out their duty, but these are still undergoing discussion. You will surely hear about them from Chill in the near future though.
Kennigit has been making his presence felt at TeamLiquid since day 1, popping up in seemingly every part of the boards and contributing in various ways. He has been promoted to News, tasked with linking youtube vods into TLPD in VioleTAK’s stead. He has also inherited the family debt from me and is now responsible for updating all non-proleague games to the TLPD as well(proleague is handled excellently by GTR).
These are two highly unappreciated but critical roles that he will be responsible for, and I can't think of a better guy to handle the responsibilities.
2. News Reform
While the previews proved to be a solid endeavor when it was introduced, the format has become rather stale in recent months. The entries became somewhat repetitive, as writers struggled to find their identity within the format.
For the second half of the 2007 year, the News writers will introduce a new format, guided more by their own style, preferences and personality rather than any formal structure. The previews will be no more, replaced instead by a ”Generalized Recap of the games.
The profluence of game vods has rendered the old-style game reports into a thing of the past, while the Live Report thread makers have truly raised the bar in providing their own hype and preview for each set of matches. The new format of news recaps hopes to offer a reading experience that neither of these two could offer.
3. Strategy Section Reform
While the Sc2 forum is widely accepted to be the place where beasts roam, the strategy forum stands its ground as one of the most undermoderated boards on this site. The regular contributors have long voiced their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs, and we have finally stepped up to the plate.
As previously mentioned, Chill (a strategy section regular himself) has been brought on board to bring order to the land. He is not alone in his pursuit, as we are truly committed to purging the plague that has infested the strategy section for far too long.
We are raising the posting standards that have fallen far too low, and there will be consequences for those who refuse to comply.
4. The Two Day Tempban
Implemented to facilitate moderation of slightly minor offenses, the 2 day tempban gives moderators the flexibility to deal with posters who don’t quite deserve a 1 or 2 week ban, but whose violations should not go unnoticed. PoP coded this one less than 1 day after I requested it to him, and both the mod crew and posters alike owe him a big thanks (yet again!).
Why should both sides be thankful? Because posters will be less likely to suffer a 1 week ban that is a tad on the harsh side, and moderators will be able to have a go-to choice when neither a 1 week or 0 week ban would have worked.
5. Manifesto7
Our fearless leader has applied for a sabbatical. While his presence will be sorely missed, we should understand that his duties as a father, husband, teacher, and student all precede that which he has to this site. He is the best thing that has happened to TeamLiquid, and will continue to be so through his legacy: a standard of excellence and commitment that we can only hope to match some day.

Nice!
Weren't there other staff color changes as well?

Nice, this will be great.

I'm noticing an effect of the news reform already. The previews were nice, but as newsposts, they were quite odd in the absence of the actual results on the news page. This way having result recaps makes a lot more sense.
One suggestion for the newsposters doing recaps though: put down the maps and groups for the games as well as the week. That way someone could just look at the news page without searching for the live report thread or results and standings for that information. The live report thread should be focused on providing play-by-play coverage as well as hype, and the results and standings should give an overview for those looking back at a later time or wanting a week-by-week in-depth report. Those wanting to know about just the previous day's games should just have to look at the news page.
edit: I've seen Mani still post around a few times in the past few days. He's just on sabbatical from his intensive mod duties, so he's no longer red. I hope. (<3 Mani you deserve a break though)

Come back soon Mani.
Good Job to Kennigit, Chill, Haji, and whoever else I missed.

Was Mynock ever red btw?

Gratz to the promoted, i will miss Mani ;(

Mani's not leaving, he's just not red any more.
|
Manifesto will return as a Red Name no doubt, and there will be happy times. Chill and Kennigit will be great as staff no doubt, and the reforms look like they're well planned in order to improve tl.net as a community. Can't wait.

Considering all the travelling and what not Mani did for the site inthe last few months he deserves a break! : O
Thanks to everyone else contributing and keeping things going though.

For the strategy section why not have a master thread for each race match up? It sounds gay but it was seriously eliminate the need for the majority of the threads in there and would possibly promote more ongoing discussion instead of a thread for every different type of opening or playstyle.

manifesto7 is indeed TL's soul, which, while not being an update in of itself, is a charming feature update by PoP, i'm guessing. i love you all

I really did enjoy the preview round up, they will be sorely missed.
Additionally please keep the front page spoilers to a minimum. A lot of us log in to download the latest VOD and its a real bummer when we see the results of the matches on the front page.

Mynock's inactive, so he got de-blue'd.

Well, the front page is for news. And the results (usually in spoiler tags) will generally be from games that are 2+ days old. We're open to suggestions though.
