Hello, Teamliquid!
It's been a long time since I've been on this forum. I'm not sure exactly, but about when Starcraft II hit I jumped ship. That was back when I was in Junior or Senior year of high school, and Starcraft II could never be as good as Brood War. You know, senile old man behavior.
I was a little heartbroken, I can't lie. I had a team, called iW (or iWish), with some really cool guys that I had fun playing with. In particular, xTs and Sayle. I played a LOT of games with these guys, and lost at least 60% (generously), but loved every minute. Brood War was my favorite thing in the world. I loved playing online. At one point I even got coaching from EG-Machine, back when a bunch of the EG guys decided to start doing coaching for money.
I have to say, it was a tragic waste of money (sorry Bryce), but I was so starstruck I didn't even care. I was playing games with Machine, one of the stars! I even won one game . I entered into WCG that year, and lost to Machine in one of the first rounds. Total punishment, but you know, ZvZ, such a coinflip (lolz).
Anyway, I made my departure from Starcraft, and an entry into the big wide world of college in the year of our lord 2011, at Georgia Southern University.
I dropped out with a .01 GPA after 3 semesters. I'd like to leave some of the details to your imagination, but I was at a very low point in my life. And having disappointed almost everyone I cared about, I turned things around and joined the army as soon as humanly possible. And in March of 2013, I left for basic training. Most scary time of my life, getting on the bus to basic.
Which leads me to now, one year later, stationed in Kuwait. I am one of the fortunate few that the army decided could best serve with my brains rather than my rifle, but I suppose I'm proud to serve nonetheless. Due to the circumstances of my current assignment, I do find myself with a lot of downtime. And with this time? I decided to get Heart of the Swarm.
One online game and I'm hooked again.
As of now I'm in gold division in EU, and I have started watching and playing SCII as my #1 timesink. And I'm lovin it.
I'M WATCHING A LIVESTREAM RIGHT NOW WITH JAEDONG'S SCREEN AND FACE!
How cool is that? My favorite super star ever, playing video games, and I'm watching.
Good times!!!
So the purpose of this blog? I just wanted to say, I missed my community. This page has gone through a lot of changes since I've last seen it, and the community has too. The change is welcome, though, as I have changed much with it. Now I'm ready to celebrate my 21st Birthday in 2 days, and sadly I won't be drinking to excess like most will, but I'll treat myself to some Starcraft sure enough.
But something is still missing. I want a team, and people to play with. I'm in gold right now, but I think that can change very quickly. My mechanics are coming back, and stategery is my strong suit. I'm learning timings, and I think I could get a lot better with just a couple guys to play with. I'd love hanging out in a TeamSpeak channel with some cool guys to play with, and I truly want to bring back that experience.
Promise I won't eat chips real loud over TS!
Unfortunately, I'm not working with the best of hardware. My computer constantly minimizes windows to inform me that my copy of Windows isn't valid, and I SWEAR it's a legit copy, but I kindof lost my key. Also, I don't have a headset, but both of these issues should be corrected shortly in the months to come. I can stream, I have a stream (www.twitch.tv/gumbum8), but it's totally boring just watching some unknown guy play ladder games in his room, I get it.
Big thanks to anyone who stuck it out through the whole blog. I know it's a bunch of ranting and rambling without any solid point. But in short, I'm glad to have come back to TeamLiquid. I've always considered my time with Brood War as my "golden years." I missed my community, and I look forward to sticking around and having some fun times with you guys!
One last thing. Big shoutout to EG-InControl. He's been one of my favorite progamers since BW, and nowadays he's my favorite caster. Not sure where Day[9] went, but I love him too. I still remember his big stream heart to heart, going through his early progaming career, and that was a really emotional moment. <3 you guys, you've really left me with some memorable moments (even if they were only on youtube). Hope I'm not too creepy.
EDIT: Day[9] Daily #100. If you haven't seen it, worth a watch.
