As in my previous blog..i like rambling about stuff that happens in my life, hope this one is better though!
I got offered a chance to win 125000 euro.
Let me explain.
I am a 23 year old jobless loser. I got thrown out of school, i was studying to become a game/3d artist. However, a while ago i started my own game project....while also selling services like 3d printing solutions and visualization (which nobody is intrested in because we are a no-name company that isnt even registered as a company yet).
So there was this competition here in belgium organized by JCI (junior chamber international)...i have no idea what this organisation is or exactly does...but they offered 125000 euro to the winning project, and professional guidance from experts...the project had to be innovative though.
So they recieved 125 entries...out of those they picked 25 projects to be further reviewed..we are one of them.
They gave me 2 days to prepare an entire presentation..now i have to talk to a jury and get them intrested in our project...and we are only given 5 minutes. I have less then 24 hours before i have to give this presentation..i cant sleep, i cant think, its fucked up.
I could stop being a jobless loser dropout (i not only got kicked out from game design school, but also from highschool..so i have a history of dropping out and being a loser..).....and i could actually become that guy who has a company and is a respected community member.
Man life is something weird, i guess even if we dont win (i really dont have high hopes for this)...i guess its life, life comes with oppurtunities and crappy moments.

GL! Even if you don't win this 'grant' I hope you're at least encouraged to push forward and try to get your project to the point that you can get it funded/forward on your own

It's obvious what you must do. Drink beer and play starcraft these last 24 hours.
|
Congrats on this opportunity. Life is absolutely what YOU make it. Life can be crappy if you make it so, or great if you make it so depending on the situations given to you. Go get that grant .

Relax man, at 23 you've got plenty of time to get your shit together if things aren't going well. This presentation sounds like a really cool experience and I'd try to take solace in the face that you're already chosen as one of the top projects, so they think it's good enough to get the funding, it's just a matter of showing them why.
Maybe something like this will be innovative and pique the interest of the people you're speaking to. If nothing else it might serve as a bit of motivation for yourself as it's a cool story in its own right about the developers of a new game that came out on Steam recently. http://forcedthegame.com/story/

Good luck.
It bears mentioning why you think winning this will stop you from being a loser. You've failed out of two schools why? What makes you think you have the work ethic or dedication to succeed at a business which is, by all accounts, a far more difficult task than a degree?
I hope you win, but try to understand why you have been a "loser" in the past before assuming success in anything else.
Good luck!

True true. I can get a bit emotional when teachers act unfair/superior towards me... I do need to mention though that i finished top of my class last year..when only 2 out of 12 passed the exams. And i surely did work alot harder then them, who only felt like smoking weed and partying instead of studying (i got nothing against that, but studying should always have priority over that....guess its ironic that im the guy that got kicked out).
But yea...i do need to have better self control, and i am trying to improve with that.
As for the presentation...i got mixed feelings about it....it almost looked like a scene from the dragon`s den....7 business people sitting in a row wearing their business suits and tight haircuts. They did have alot of critics (thats why they were there in the first place i guess), but i hope i answered most of the questions to their satisfaction...ah well, i will know the results on 5 november...will keep you guys updated.
and ofcourse if i win...big shoutout to starcarft!......otherwise i will blame starcraft for ruining my life! (j/k)
