Its funny because I heard he doesn't like to have his picture taken at actual bars, probably because of PR reasons.

I'm finding it hard to remember the last time a long-term goalie contract didn't work out poorly. Even Lundqvist only got 6 years on his last contract and he's one of the few guys who most would consider a 'good bet' for the long term. Rask is good but... man... goalies are wildcards and that's a hell of a commitment. edit: Just realized this makes Rask the highest paid member of the Bruins. Doesn't make sense in that context, does it? Also CapGeek currently has the Bruins 1M+ over the cap. Also Rask has a NMC and NTC? Wow. Not that anyone will want to trade for that contract anyways. Can't believe they had to give him all of those 'perks' even when paying out the nose.

I mean, I think seguin and Rask will both be near the top at their respective positions for the duration of those deals, but it just seemed like with a little better handling, both could be on the team now on 2-3 year deals that give much more cap flexibility.

edit: Just read this elsewhere: for a contract signed in the old CBA, if a player retires before the contract is over and the contract was a back diving contract, the difference between actual salary and salary cap will count against the team’s cap. Ilya’s cap hit is 6.666,667. His salary is above that until 2019, when it falls to 4 million, then 1 million for the final 5 years. In 2019-20 the Devils will have a cap hit of 1.6 million, and from 2020-2025 he will count against the cap for 5.6 million. Until 2019 he won’t count against the cap as his actual salary is higher than cap hit. If so, then double lol. edit 2: The above seems to be false because of the number of years currently played-out of the contract. So it won't be as funny.

Regardless, glad to see him play, was the definition of a sniper and a great goal scorer. he just turned 30 lol edit: http://capgeek.com/recapture-calculator?contract_id=2795&player_id=339&recapture_submit=set&retirement_year=2013&trade=0&acquiring_team=6&in_season_trade=-1&in_season_traded_year=2012&season_percentage=1&off_season_traded_year=2013 also "The New Jersey Devils will forfeit their first-round pick in 2014 (they elected to use their first-round picks in 2011, 2012 and 2013),[3] as the result of a penalty sanction due to cap circumvention when signing Ilya Kovalchuk. The penalty also included a fine of $3 million and the forfeit of the Devils third round pick in 2011.[4]"
