I've watched tasogare samurai (real name: The Twilight Samurai or Tasogare Seibei) a while ago, it's a film that has stuck with me because of how much i enjoyed it, or the connections i felt from it. + Show Spoiler + I don't remember how i came across it (perhaps having 'samurai' in the title had to do with it back then) but i was surely not expecting a slice of life drama about a struggling samurai.
The film itself is quite acclaimed but for what it is, it has probably not been seen by many outside of Japan. It is one of those quiet films that warm you and slowly tear your emotions apart but with many good moments and interesting scenes between.
As someone who watched Sword of the Stranger, it's not a very groundbreaking animated movie, but is surely one of the few that are produced so well. You should expect some easy cliches and a simple plot.
Satoshi Kon movies are great psychological and animated films.
and honestly, if you just look at japanese animated film awards, you should quickly find one that suits you. many animated films are created to appeal to all ages.

Some notable films from Japanese animation include: "Sword of the Stranger", "Grave of the Fireflies", "You Are Umasou", "Wolf Children", and "Millennium Actress"
thanks, will check them out

If you guys like Funny Games, then check out The Strangers, another house invasion movie. Its always nice renting 3 or 4 random horror movies and finding a few good ones.

Dear Zachary, Never let me go, the jacket, give em hell harry. All fit this I think.
Mr. Nobody was surprisingly good. I liked it much better than cloud atlas.
Also watch the second terminator if you haven't. Also Gattaca just because.

this seems to be a "you like or you hate it" film, i for myself enjoyed the really fucked up scenario, but sometimes the "victims" act just plain stupid otherwise such a setting wouldnt work properly i guess :D

Not sure why you would have a special place in your heart for a movie you really despise. Obviously the creative vision was not something you appreciated, why not just move along and ignore it then?

Because it's an extremely dangerous and reactionary movie that needs to be denounced for what it is. Because under it, there is a despicable ideology.

The Strangers isn't really random though. It did quite well at the box office. Anyway, You're Next will be out in August and if you're a fan of those movies you might want to check it out.

Read a few of Haneke's interviews, maybe you'll get why I think that. Also yes I take some movies seriously, and so should you. Edit : I mean, I don't care about most torture porns, I mean, I think it might be the most stupid genre in the history of cinema, but if some people get their kick out of it... This is not your usual torture porn, Haneke is an "intellectual" you know...

Grandma's Boy is a hilarious comedy with a few familiar faces from the Adam Sandler 'camp'
Based around a guy who makes video games for a living.
If you like Superbad/Seth Rogan/Judd Appatow - you'll like this!

im trying to remember a film..
japanese film samurai type main character on a quest or journey a thief/follower type sees him one day and decides to follow him (maybe claymore style) cant remember else atm....they may stop at a house to excise it of demons and may fight a final boss evil dude at end (probably, dont recall)
my hidden gem recommendations: Marebito (eerie, solitary) Ikigami (future, drama)
