I think medical school in France is significantly cheaper. He should be set.

It is not that huge of a blow to the foreign scene skill-wise, though I admit he had an amazing and popular personality. As there are tons of good european pros and emerging talent like drunkenboi, kane, neeb, and hendralisk. Not to mention Chinese players are getting more involved in the scene and many of them are as good as Code S level Koreans.
Stephano on his lowest ebb was still better than these players hungover without playing for a week in HoTs (not the chinese). Just to give it some perspective . The foreign scene has been dealt the biggest blow it possibly could in terms of a retirement.

Mill.Stephano! I miss those days!

Smart move. As I recall he did say he'd only stay around for a lil bit, make some cash and then hop on the education train. Quit while ontop!
Good luck in life o/

He has more than enough to do all the years + get a nice place to live during his studies. You can get some financial help when doing studies like these one in France.

You are correct. 600 euros a year or so. Many US people seem to assume that their system is the same everywhere. Medicine is just a university course in Europe like any other, although lasts 5 years. There is no "med school" in general. You do not need a degree to do it, just straight from high school you start.

i support this move, he did what he said he wanted to do .... make money. he knows esports is not a career that lasts so he is making a good decision.

I think this is really smart. He can retire having made great earnings, and as one of the best foreigners in SC2. Really cool. Best of luck to Stephano!

no offense to Suppy, But he comes from a wealthy America Asian family and is doing something different in his studies and is quite catered to, so has the money and time for both school and sc2. Most of Suppy's college fee's are paid by his parents. Where as Stephano is going into the medical field, being a med student gives you 100% no time for anything else, one of the most time consuming things to go to school for and start a career in. So I'm glad Stephano is thinking about his long term future, Pro gamer is not long term thing you can do, Unless you are Korean on a Kespa team and you are the best of the best.
In case you havent done your research, in almost all of Europe college fee is almost nonexistant at public universities (ranging from 0 to 1500$ per year depending on your country and university). These costs are easily covered by student grant (if he even gets that because of his "massive" wealth) or his saved money.
Stephano has enjoyed playing SC2 because he likes to win stuff and travel around the world meeting people which is not possible by playing the game half-assed.
edit: reading all those horrorstorys about college education in the states really makes me question that system even more edit2: studying medical related things is overrated, unless the courses are significantly more time intensive in the US it is really not that much that you cant do anything else in your life. ( Its probably comparable to a normal 40 hour job if you are really dedicated)

That's not accurate - it depends on many factors like what university and the parents' income. It's not just "flat 600 euros"
it's definitely not as much money as the US tho, no where near as much

I hope he got plenty of closure. Best of success to his transition and future~

i still got goose bumps with egtl playing in proleague, especially teamliquid after so many years being involved in the scene, providing proleague/msl/osl articles/infos.

I must say what a loser. From day 1 Stephano was in it for the money. While everyone else loves sc2, Stephano was never compelled by the gameplay or enjoyed watching it. He didn't know other pro players names, and he's not involved in the scene. Stephano doesn't like to analyze his gameplay or talk about starcraft. He's a leech on the scene. Most pros would kill for a contract with EG and this dude could care less.
Stephano is just too cool for Starcraft

Smart move by Stephano, investing in his future rather than coming down on the other side of 30 with no professional experience or tangible skills to speak of.
Sick run -- good luck in the future!

Yeah it depends I am sure but in many, or dare I say it the vast majority of places it is indeed flat 600 euros. Parents income is not a consideration.
The UK is of course different and has gone the way of the devil like the USA in recent years.

Sad to see him go. I wish him the best of luck!

Actually, if you're European/EEA/Swiss, the rates will be the same no matter what; for the country you're in. Student financing and bursaries might vary a lot depending on those rates, but the tuition is the same.
