Thanks for the overall Interest, kind words, and observations about the level of violence in the content. I really didn't even think of it while I illustrated, I felt it was more symbolic, like a caricature and symbolic skull. I attribute it to my current personal life trials as well as the atmosphere required in the game I'm developing. These things probably have me in a much darker place as an artist, atm.
It is a good point that Grubby is definitely a super nice/kind personality and this image departs from that quality in Grubby. I personally feel that Grubby on the other hand would be one of the scariest players you could ever face on the virtual battle field. This image is suppose to convey that feeling. Imagine for a moment you were faced with Grubby in a high stress environment like at Dream Hack, and I think you might see him differently as well.
Grubby pointed out himself that on paper he caused an upset result (through cunning strategy). That's the fun of watching Grubby, imho, he is always a surprising opponent, and one that you can never underestimate. Personally, I don't think you could be dubbed 'King of Orcs' without having a lot of nerd-blood on your hands.
Finally, I'd like to point out that while I'm not in the habit of making violent content I usually set the bar at being less so than the game I'm referring to in my fan illustration. I'd have to say that SC2 (especially physics enabled) is one of the most graphic games I've ever experienced. In conclusion, I think I too am a bit unsettled at the graphic nature of the image and surprised at it in retrospect. I am however somewhat intrigued by it all at the same time.
I'd be interested to hear more thoughts and perspectives on the issue. Thanks again! :D
