We also lived in a couple other spots in the area just outside of Tucson past 20 minutes past the airport. The area dubbed by locals as "dog patch" due to the insane amount of dogs roaming around and in everyone's yards and houses. Acres/miles of desert separating a few clusters of trailers and ramshackle buildings/houses and derelict cars. Dirt bike trails and washes abound.
The "mansion" was on the property of Mr. Brown an old man who lived in a trailer a half an acre or so back from the 2 bedroom one bath trailer with an added on garage.. with a basement OO that he rented to my parents for a good two years or so. Too which my Dad eventually added another 2 bedroom one bath trailer too by cutting out one wall in each and pretty much "tapped it together".(the great job causing a leak that would eventually shock the living crap out of me when vacuuming).
I spent the best times there far removed from the "fun" times of bathing in cold water and cooking our food at circle K out front in a crockpot cause they would let us use the outlet. My mom was just doing topless dancing something that did little to ease my embarsment over my mothers profession. But it did allow me to enjoy my first video game system. My mother always a sucker for us kids would usually give in a tell us our presents for christmas and birthdays. When we found out about getting a Nintendo (my sister and I) were so persistent that we got to open it weeks prior.
Robby the Robot I soon found was the must crappy game ever. I eventually gave him to a friend for his birthday. The few weeks till christmas (where we knew grandma was getting us another game) was a torturous time.
Stability was at least somewhat formed at that house.Routine, food, fun, and parents doing nothing other than some pot smoking and work. I explored the desert, watched cartoons on Saturday mornings went to the same school for consecutive grades let alone a full year it was a dream come true it was great.
My Dad never being far from the bar night life scene (mom striping etc.) He ran into people from the past....from a bike club.
I dont remember much about the week or so prior to the uprooting and insta move to Winterhaven Ca. What I do remember is leaving everything I owned, toys, garbage pail kid cards, pellet gun..everything other than that Nintendo. I do recall looking out the window of a fully loaded truck with camper with my mom dad and two sisters now and what little would fit in the truck, tears streaming and wondering wtf is going on.
Things got very crazy as my dad went straight to "work" being a prospect for the club...very crazy ...I will pick it up later maybe if anyone is interested..?
