My Uncle was a huge part of my life during my younger childhood. I spent many days at his house playing video games, but that young I just enjoyed watching him play. I remember how excited my brother and I used to get watching him play Tomb Raider. I think we enjoyed watching him play more than we enjoyed playing ourselves. Then I saw him play Asheron's Call. I was absolutely intrigued by the idea of an MMORPG. "Those are real people?! That's awesome!" Man I wanted to play so bad Fast forward to late 2002 when I got my first real computer. It was a pretty shitty by today's standards but considering we were on a Windows 98 machine that couldn't do ANYTHING, this thing was fucking amazing. Instantly, my goal was to play Asheron's Call. During our next trip to the store, I saw it. I saw it right there on the shelf Asheron's Call 2. It wasn't the same, but it was the sequel. Surely the sequels better and I begged my Mom to buy it and she obliged :D.
I remember pulling my first all nighter at age 11. The world was amazing, the sounds, the gameplay was so different than anything else I'd played up until then. I was in e-heaven.
I played it a lot off and on. Play a few months, miss a few months, etcetc. I cherished every moment in that game. I remember when WoW came out, during a November, and I got it for Christmas because most of my Allegiance was making the switch. I played a little bit until level 20ish but hated it. Something about AC2 just locked me in, and I switched back...until AC2 was shut down forever.
I went on to play WoW until just 4 months ago.
I miss Asheron's Call 2 so much. I miss the gameplay and the sounds. It kind of makes me sad thinking about it and all the memories I had with it. I'd instantly buy it up if it were ever re-released. To make things worse, they don't even have private servers for it ;/
Maybe I was too young to see the flaws in the game, but to me it'll always be my favorite MMO ever.
I never played AC1 so I can't comment on that, but I'd do anything just to be able to play AC2 again for a day or two. It seems that Turbine really doesn't have any plans to revisit the franchise.
Are there any other old AC2 players out there? I played on Frostfell.

"too young to see the flaws in the game." I love that sentence. reminded me a lot of when I used to think final fantasy 8 was the greatest game ever and played it all through my childhood. it's not until you grow up and finally realize how flawed some of your fav games are, but it still doesn't dmg the awesome memories you have with them. nice read ^^

I'd be surprised if Turbine went back to AC. LOTRO is actually a lot of fun (at least it was when it was a pay to play - I had way more fun in LOTRO with my ex than we did on WoW) and pretty darn successful too.
My first machine was a clunker too...the only game I could really play on it was Transport Tycoon - one of those games that is really boring and terrible but you grew so attached to it as a kid that you just ignore all the terrible gameplay just for the sheer nostalgia / growing up factor.

oh wouw...didn't expect someone here that actually knows ac played not that much but when i went on i usually was on harvestgain... ac2 went down long ago, but if i'm not completely mistaken ac1 is still up, isn't it?

Dude, Transport Tycoon just ROCKS.

Shoutout to a fellow Asheron's call boy. Well I only played the original but it was great. I still think it had the best PvP of any mmo i've played. Mage combat was a ton of fun.

ahh this is the perfect post to how i feel right now, I am also an fps player and the first fps i truly feel in love with was cod4 i remember all the fun i had with my friends playing it on xbox, racing to 10th prestige and just talking. I have logged almost 50 days playing that game. Now i play black ops but its not the same so i went back on to see if it still had that same magic. Sadly the game has been hacked and it doesn't look like it will be fixed anytime soon. Its hard to see such a found childhood memory be destroyed. Hell i wrote in my opinion my best paper ever on cod4 and the bounds and friendships that i have that were built around that game. I only hope that it gets fixed so i can relive the good old days.

What hurts the most is any other game I've felt like this about I could find it and play it somehow. With this I'll probably never be able to because it was one of the only mmorpgs shut down forever and not releasing the files for private servers ;'x

Just an update, AC2 is currently back up in beta. You have to have an active AC1 subscription to play though :X

Wow, AC2 was my first MMO back in my Countrrsttike days. Fond memories being the first game I ever made $ from. Don't suppose anyone remembers a "Filena Vendree" or some such?
