Anyway I like hawks predictions except Carolina isnt going to make the playoffs at all, the Sabers with their superior goaltending will. In the West, there is no way that Edmonton makes it. Not enough defense and their division has gotten tougher.

1) San Jose 2) Chicago 3) Vancouver 4) St. Louis 5) LA 6) Minnesota 7) Edmonton 8) Dallas East: 1) Boston 2) Pittsburgh 3) Tampa Bay 4) New York Rangers 5) Philadelphia 6) Carolina 7) New Jersey 8) Washington The east is a LOT harder to call than the west. Almost any team in the east has a reasonable chance to make it into the playoffs.

Its not like the current set up is going anywhere and its possible to move Iginla and Kipper for some serious returns probably. At this pace assuming the young stars of Edmonton re-sign there the Oilers will be back in the playoffs much much sooner.

Carolina I disagree though. There's a major difference from the top 5 or so seeds in the east and the 6-8 teams. 6-8 could really be any combo of Ottawa, Washington, Philly, Buffalo, Carolina, Montreal... hell even winnipeg and florida. between the injuries the bad defense and just shit play, philly could very well lland down there. Washington is too talented to be down there but i dont know what the fuck ovechkin is doing, or what Oates is doing (he had ovechkin on a line with Crabb the other day apparently) I think the Pens are fine. Everyone has bad days. If you caught any of their other games, they looked real good. A couple shitty turnovers here and there (esp by Malkin) but still very good. And yeah the Flames are in a slow burn becuase Fat Fuckface Feaster refuses to acknowledge where they are as a franchise. It will be at least 5 years before they're a legit threat again. Id be amazed if they compete for the 8 seed. It's an aging team with little in the way of prospects. Who the fuck is gonna replace Iggy and Kipper in the next 2-3 years?

I can't remember what book I was reading, but it did a good job of demonstrating how well-supported teams (assuming an equal economic landscape) historically win less, in the long run. It explained the data using a lot of factors - such as how guaranteed bums in the seats and control over media access lead to an overall lack of accountability and trend towards 'modest competitiveness'. Anyways, it was a good read. The Flames' game-plan for the better part of a decade has been to fill enough holes around their core players to get into 8th place and keep the fans happy. At some point the bottom has to drop out which is too bad. A world where both Edmonton and Calgary were competing for top spot in the west would make me a happy hockey fan. Those would be some wonderful games.
