I had some time today and I was thinking...what with HotS coming out in the near future there are some cool images of Kerrigan, specifically this one (from the official box art, there's a much larger un-cropped original, but I cannot find it unfortunately):
All of the following images are 1650x1052px however, ever since I've seen this image this got me thinking...what if this had been done to reflect the iconic box art from Brood War more closely? Well, I decided to play around in Photoshop to see what Brood War might look like if it were done today (just go with me here). While I'm not entirely sure of Blizzards intentions for the original image, the subtle changes I made seems to be rather compelling (a much more palpable chaotic and destructive force I think):

I think this is also because I thought about working to create the BW logo, in a Hi-res and HotS-esque fashion and figured why not see how it might look in 2013 compared with 1998? Below is the end product, and one that looks pretty cool I think.

Makes me want to load up some BW, despite the fact that I'm terrible. Also, it may be a little late but Happy 2013 TL. :D

Damn, that is pretty damn slick
Good job!

|
last one is quite sexy
|
I like the look, though it looks to new to be BW, BW has that nostalgia, you gotta keep that nostalgia .
|
Who cares about nostalgia? It looks great.
|
I don't like the new look of Kerrigan, preferred the original, from brood war and before it That said, good job man. You made it better than the current one

|
Very nice
|
Someone make a mod for broodwar that replaces the loading screen picture with the final one from the OP please.
|
Thanks guys! Glad you like it, though I wish I had a high res copy of this zoomed out version to work with from the start :D
|
That is purty cool.
Bswhunter, that's pretty easy, although it won't be as high res of course.
Here's a new BrooDat.mpq. Download it, make a backup of your old broodat.mpq (found in your StarCraft folder), and replace it with the new one. (DISCLAIMER: I make no guarantees that it will work for you. If it breaks anything, I take no reponsibility. It worked for me, it may not work for you.) http://www.mediafire.com/?z8iou3kbxurtn1a Here's a quick tutorial for anyone who wants to know how: + Show Spoiler +FIRST BACK UP YOUR BROODAT.MPQ FILE. 1: Download GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/downloads/) (Some other image editors may work.) 2: Download Ladiq's MPQ Editor: http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html3: Download and extract the Brood War listfile: http://zezula.net/download/listfiles.zip4: Run the editor, go to File->Open With Options, and navigate to your StarCraft folder. Open BrooDat.mpq. A dialog box pops up with the options: at the top right, click the "..." and navigate to the Brood War listfile you previously downloaded. Select that and continue to open it. 5: A list of files will appear. Go to the Glue folder, and then the title folder inside there. Right click the file called title.pcx and hit Open With, and open it with GIMP. 6: The Brood War loading image will show up. File->Export->Export the image as Brood War Loading Screen Old.pcx (or similiar, and place it somewhere so you can get it back if you ever want to.) 7: Open up whichever image it is that you want to replace the loading screen with. Rescale that one to 640x480. Then select all, copy, and paste into the Brood War loading image. The colours will change slightly because of the colour indexing the PCX file uses. File->Export, and export it as title.pcx somewhere else, and close GIMP. 8. Go back into Ladiq's MPQ Editor, and go to Operations->Add File. Select the new title.pcx. When it asks if you want to overwrite the title.pcx file, press Yes. If it doesn't ask you to overwrite it, you're doing it wrong. Close the editor and open SC. Your new loading screen should appear. Here's a picture of mine:
(I cropped mine so it wouldn't be a screwy aspect ratio.)

Holy shit, that's awesome! I really don't like the "purple" Zerg theme they used for SC2, I prefer your "green-yellow" version.
|
Wow really nice! I never got the purple theme... :S
Is the whole version of the artwork released anywhere? The biggest i found was on bnet and showed only half of her torso...

I found another version somewhere in my foraging around but they were both fairly low res from what I remember. The thing that always confused me about Kerrigan in SC2, well visually, other than the heels, was the fact that her eyes were a bright orange for whatever reason...I always found the lightbulb socket eyes a little ... caricature-like.

ha, this is true, they even contradict themselves (the sprite of normal and infested Kerrigan have green eyes, but for some reason the box art was different, idk why).

the biggest one i saw was even more out-zoomed :S but thx =)
it appeared on the log-in on Bnet by trying to purchase HotS or so, you could see parts ofKerrigans arms, so the whole thing is quite big.

biggest one i found and notice how different she looks (eyes, missing spines on the forehead, better overall)
