lol @ people getting insulted or saying this is an insult.
even if it was meant to be it doesnt make linguistic sense to me.
the word "too" = the word "also" sctoo=scalso
if you think about it, people who use this are calling sc2, starcraft also. brood war is starcraft? sc2 is starcraft also. thats how i interpret it. by using the word also it implies they put it on the same level as brood war and so it mustn't be an insult unless they feel the same way about brood war TOO

um no...everyone in korea says star1 and star2...

I think the origin comes from a russian dude making a meme saying "In SCToo protoss mech you!" with some hilarious picture

What if NaDa would post in tl?

In the same vein they refuse to call SC2 units by their real names in the PL LR threads, calling colossi tripods, phoenixes sairs etcetera. It's obnoxious because even when you prefer BW over SC2, there's no reason to constantly be in everyone's face about it. I'm quite sure that it wasn't thought of in this manner until it was voiced that SC2 players found it unpleasant. To be honest, I'd attribute it more of an "insult" to "hardcore" Brood War fans than I would to Starcraft 2 fans... I'm sure you can figure out why.
Also, the reason SCtoo is a great insult to SC2 fans is because it's entirely left up to your imagination to determine why it's an insult. there's no better insult than one which is fueled by your imagination because every time you think of something worse, it overwrites the original "why this phrase is insulting". It actually likely had no meaning when it first came into being.
As for there's no reason for BW to be in people's faces, that's just straight up false, if Brood War doesn't impose itself, it's forgotten. Standard survival tactics.

It seems like some sort of diminutive, but hardly insulting...

I think that it means that SC2 doesn't really belong with SC vanilla/bw, so it's just like "Me too!" Hence, SCToo.
Oh and it's not like it's the most clever insult ever, it's just that a lot of the SC2 community gets upset about things so easily.

Oh you forgot X10A coined the word "ground stasis" and also marauders as "football players".This really reminded me in my days when cs source was patronized by die hard cs 1.6 player calling cs "Sauce" or source and yet no blood was spilled and merely shrug off as a joke by both scene . Bottom line is it's kind of hard for bw fans identify the units in sc2 and forcefields looks like stasis and hence the creation of "ground stasis" and the list goes on . Have to agree with colossus sc2 as tripod though because it really does look like one to me .
No, it was "groundArbiters" and "rampStasis". And pretty sure it was me that came up with that.
Also, ppl refer to sc2 as sctoo cause "Starcraft 2 is Starcraft, too!".
