What I've realized the last couple of years is that I lost the ability to get into any game for any long period of time. My last addiction was world of warcraft which is now about 5 years ago. I bought several games for both PC and PS3 since then but nothing have kept my attention for mch longer then the time it took to complete the singleplayer part (some less then that). Its not that I buy bad games. I have bought SC2 (dah!), Diablo 3, Skyrim, SSX tricky, Uncharted 3 and more. But none have kept my attention for long.
I've also come to realize that I'm an achivement whore. I was in WoW, I was in SC2 and tried to be in D3. My biggest flaw as an achievement whore is that I'm bad at the long grind sessions. Maybe the same reason I can't play the same game for longer periods - I get freaking bored.
Anyway... how to combine this while still playing games:
FLASH ONLINE MOTHERFUCKING GAMES! =)
Kongregate.com have build in achievement for most of their games. You can track your progress with a level indicator and all the shizzle I love as a achievment whore. You can even see how many have gotten the achievement before you so you can feel extra proud when only 3000 have done it before you compared to the 250k people on some of the easy ones.
In writing moment Kongregate boast they have more then 59.000 games. I have no knowledge how many of those have achievements but either way its a big fucking task I've set myself on:
Get every achievement on Kongregate.
I'll be logging my progress here for my own and your convenience =)
I have already gotten some games under my belt. Here are a few of the most recent ones I completed:
Sugar, Sugar 2.
Achievements:
- Sweet Sweet Teleportation Badge (Complete level 7 - Easy 5 points, 32.000 before me)
- Pour Some Sugar on Me Badge (Complete all 30 levels - Hard 30 points, 4000 before me)
What is Sugar, Sugar 2? A ton of sugar drops from a comma and you then have to guide the sugar to the appropriate cup. You do so by drawing any shape or slope you want...
Simple eh?
Sound pretty easy?? Yeah thats what I thought. There are several other mechanics that want to screw with you. Like the color filters, reverse gravity, 2 color cups and teleporters.
My masterpeice!
Worst part is that when you finally think you got the trick figured out the sugar runs out... So you have to start all over and if you misdraw something you start over again. There was also some levels where the cups only needed 1 bit of sugar in each cup, but then only 1 bit for each cup came out of the comma...
Last level was weird. You had to get the order right...
Last level took some time to get the order right...
Fantasy Online:
Achievements:
- One Small Pixel Step Badge (Reach level 4 - Easy 5 points, 250.000 before me)
- King Crab Creme Brulee Badge (Complete the quest "Kill the King Crab" - Medium 15 points, 68.000 before me)
- A Champion Among Us Badge (Complete the quest "We Are the Champions!" - Hard 30 points, 43.000 before me)
- Undead Labor Woes Badge (Complete the quest "Ex Miner Pitbossy" - Hard 30 points, 17.500 before me)
Fantasy Online is a MMORPG. Much like early runescape it isn't the graphic side that keep this game running. The games have a quirky sort of humour. They know how MMORPG's are usually like and play on this. Its kinda like The Noob Comic...
The game is still in beta and it shows. The gamecurser lags heavily when playing in window mode and when in fullscreen flash doesn't support keyboard. That mean no hotkeys, chat or selling (you have to shift+click to sell. The only way I found anyway) without going back to window mode.
The game have all the things all MMORPG's have: Hotbar, skills, quests, grinding, crafting, levels, potions etc. It also have everything free MMORPG's have: Buyable buffs, items and worst of all you have to use real money to do some things - like gathering materials or opening chests. I used the few precious gems (real money currency) I had on a bank slot. Not the smartest when I'm not in it for the long run :D
Standard MMORPG... For the meh?
The first few achievements went by fast, I was still learning the game by then. The last on however was kinda hard. I rushed to the area where I needed to kill the Ex Miner Pitboss and realized I was barely high enough level and heavily undergeared.
NOOOOOOO!!!!!
I went back with a bunch of HP potions (no timer) and was just going to kill 1 of those Pitboss'. It wasn't until after I realized I had to do some stupid quest before getting the acheivement. That ment more grinding and more death.
But the good thing about not caring about endgame or future playing (and with this game I truly don't) is that you can waste money! So I went shopping! Most of my gold later I was good to go and end my experience in Fantasy Online.
Done and done! And note the cool cat on the head! =)
This came out sort of long... I'll try to keep it shorter next time, whenever that may be.
Please let me know if you want this presented differently or if it's even remotely interesting... I'll try to work on my blogging skills as we go along =)
