Took me only 7 seasons to do so. First season(which was pretty long) I reached silver, after finding the Teamliquid community, and the now forgotten, 5 roach rush. Then, in season 3, I reached gold. And now, 4 seasons later, PLATINUM, the promised land, the once highest league. Now I can say that today has been a good day.     | ||

Really the only point of the placement match is so that people who haven't been playing won't be put into a league so there's little inactive players wasting division spots. You got promoted because your performance in past seasons qualified you for a promotion. In season promotions are harder to get, because the system needs to be absolutely sure you deserve it, because they don't want you to hop leagues so much that it becomes meaningless. The placement match is a catalyst to promote you, if you did everything else you needed to get promoted. The placement match itself doesn't change your rating much. A good way to think about it is that every match you've played up until that point are your 4 placement matches and this 1 match is your 5th. Even if you lose it, it's not a big deal if you've been winning everything else. | ||
