The subject of this thread is not a license to roll out your inaccurate, misinformed, poorly conceived, tired, and downright offensive theories about race relations. |

Too bad for them, they lose the best professional SC2 caster who doesn't live in Seoul, and they have to burden another of their active progamers with casting responsibilities instead.
This whole attack, in fact, might have been against EG, in the end. Because it hurts them as an organization if they can't use Orb's uniquely analytical fine casting.

it's not the fact that orb rages during ladder
the fact is that orb lied to SirScoot denying these allegations when he was caught on his own stream raging with identical language.

Not taking any sides, but some people in SC2 really have double standards set in place.
Destiny didn't have any bosses that could fire him.

I like how I jump in the FGC sexism thread, half of the posts are slamming the FGC saying that sexism is intolerable and the FGC is so bad, so uncivilized, FGC should take lessons from the SC2 scene etc. etc. Then I jump in this thread, and the majority of people are saying racist slurs are completely normal, business as usual. Stay classy, guys. This is a nice lesson for me of what our culture has come to.

I'm sure there are more than a few hypocrites in the SC2 community, but I'd be willing to bet most of us making a big deal out of this don't approve of Destiny either.

I'm going to assume that last picture is very old since it says justin.tv at the top left of the picture because the name twitch.tv does not show up anywhere on the vod. Back then justin.tv would appear on peoples vods.

This is really unnecessary, we all know orb's tendency to rage, but EVERYBODY who plays starcraft rages. If you look deep enough you will find almost every player/community figure in a compromising position. The point is, we should not let this take away from what orb has actually provided for the community. Yes, he is bm, and if it really gets out of hand, he might need to fix that, but please don't sit here and try to make a mockery out of orb when he's been contributing hours and hours of casting, when you sir, have done nothing.

Lmfao.. i find it amusing how people are so hell bent on getting this guys career fucked over for saying nigger.. Huk tweeted "nigga" at Totalbiscuit last week and no shit storm was made but because someone with lower popularity in this community rage-bm's someone he's getting treated like this for it, i mean yeh he should be punished for lying to EG management because that was just a retarded move by him, but as usual Reddit has blew something like this way out of proportion...
Edit- I also love how people say Sc2's community is the best gaming community, its actually debatable if its as bad as Runescape or LoL's.. its close at least, and thats saying something -.-, goodluck to Orb explaining the lies to EG's management and his career as a caster is probably over due to how this has went down :o

OH NOOOOO
SOMEONE SAID NIGGER!!
Seriously? SERIOUSLY?!
I can't believe people are so bored with SC2 that they have to spend time lashing out at people who get upset when they lose. Everyone gets angry. Are we going to start witch hunting people who say "gay" on stream too?
How old are all of you? Get a grip.

When I call someone "a fucking bitch" or "cunt" it doesn't mean that I hate or think less of women, the same applies to "nigger", perhaps even more so due the history of that particular word. It's meant to be demeaning and nasty towards the person you are attacking. It says absolutely nothing about your own beliefs regarding racism and sexism.
Usually what happens when you "rage" is you venting your frustration and anger towards yourself - you are the victim and merely projects your own frustration onto others.
Orb may be a racist, but the evidence so far is severly lacking and all we can do really, is to merely speculate.
Netolip supreme court rules as follows - NOT GUILTY!
Although I think your entire position is fallacious, you do realize nobody with a brian is asserting that orb is actually a racist? Whether or not orb is a racist "on the inside" is not the issue here, I thought that was a simple understanding

Actually that is completely wrong. He was making specific slanders towards specific groups or objects. "keep taking dumb nigger risks", "dumb nigger clan", "dumb nigger". This is far more than just saying nigger, he is directly correlating actions with a racial group, giving the words more meaning than just simple frustration. You could make endless implications against him, however the case for him is extremely small.

How old is orb, 19 or so?
I think a lot of people are forgetting that a big part of our community has not fully matured yet. Basically you gotta be adult and mature to know you are one and that, for most people, doesnt happen until you are in the late twenties.
I remember raging hard when I was at his age as well though I dont think I ever used racist slurs. I am not saying its okay to say those kind of things because you are young. What I am saying is that its very common to say such stuff when you are still very young. Luckily I believe SirScoots knows that and wont be too harsh on orb and I also believe orb will have learnt something from this when it has all settled down.

If this were ANY other public forum his behavior would not be tolerated and his career would be over. And for good reason.
How can we expect anybody to take professional Starcraft seriously if professional casters are allowed to use racial and homophobic epithets on their broadcasts?
It's the nature of online gaming. Are you telling me you haven't been called something as offensive while laddering (or other online games)? People get jaded, simple as that.

Honestly, everyone these days are just trying to find things that create drama. BM isn't that big of a deal, why people are making a big deal about orb BMing is beyond me, especially considering orb doesn't represent a large part of the community because he is not as known as most of the people that do represent it. It just baffles me how A. this thread is still open and B. how you all care so much. I guarantee most of you have BM'd stuff just as bad as this, if not worse. So please don't accuse others of it especially considering that it's just words, no one is going to shoot themselves over what a random stranger did on the internet. And if they did, then god bless them because they have issues.

Honestly, some crimes aren't worth persecuting. Look at Wal-Mart and CVS, they lose millions a year in petty theft, but they'd lose even more if they persecuted everyone who steals a pack of gum.
It's not persecution. The criminal is irrelevant; the crime is important. Your analogy is stupid. .....calling someone a "nigger" or a "faggot" isn't a crime. It is in the UK, falls under the Public Order Act 1986 Shouldn't you guys, of all people, have learned something from 1984?
I didn't write it, wasn't old enough to vote in the government that made it either It's a bit of a grey area though in online games, some football fans have been cautioned by the police for using homophobic abuse recently on twitter though. As a Brighton & Hove Albion fan we have to listen to away fans chanting homophobic abuse every home game. Not offended by it personally but I can understand why some people would be and why the FA are trying to kick racism and homophobic abuse out of football.
Bit off topic but highlights the silliness of so many posters declaring that any homophobic abuse is now totally acceptable and means nothing. If it means nothing to them personally that's fine but some people should stop posting their own opinions as though the whole of society agrees with them.

Same goes for Orb when said incidents occurred.
Just leaving it at that.

Hmm, a player of no consequence raging like a 14 year old online? Not a story.
Oh, he's on EG? Yeah, still not a story.
He shouldn't be calling people niggers and fags, or lying about it.
But no one cares about orb, so let EG "punish" him (by which I mean a mild scolding).

Not going to read all 50 pages of this topic but here's my take on it.
I played Orb quite a bit during the beta and was on the receiving end of this sort language. What you guys need to realize was this all happened a long time ago, before Orb took esports seriously, before he even casted. Do any of you remember him when he first started streaming? He would talk trash about how bad his opponents were and rage about it in front of a couple hundred people. As someone who used to hate Orb, I do ask that we move on from this and put it in the past seeing as that's actually when these events occurred. I watch the NASTL and Korean Weeklys quite a bit and I think orb has improved not only as a person but as a caster as well. It's a shame something like this had to be dug up and brought back to life to haunt him.
By the way SNSDYuri wasn't exactly the nicest player I ever came across either. If it's necessary I can try to dig up replays from the beta, as I think I still have the folder on my hard drive.
