You know how many people would starve to death without the Dollar Menu? Nah but seriously, nice blog, mad respect for EMTs, they need to be paid more.

Are you training to be a firefighter and work as a paramedic? Because that figure sounds really off. I'm curious as to what region you work in. Rural county?

http://www.safetyed.ca/news_jobs Calgary is a great city with a real culture of hard work and entrepreneurialism. You should look into it, seriously. I moved here 5 years ago so I could make more money and I've never regretted it for a second.

Rural county? I work in Alabama. I've been an EMT since 2008, volunteering since 2007. Paramedic since last year, would have been one in 2009 but quit school when my dad (who was also a firefighter/paramedic, and chief of EMS operations) died. My pay is about average in Alabama.

I'll summarize our training in one sentence for you. Keep him/her alive until EMS arrives. Fucking heroes.

Would love to live in your area where ems workers have a smile on their face 24 7. Lol. They are underpaid though. Emt makes around 25, paramedic makes around 35 depending an hour. Emt is different in the states, they have almost no training compared to emts in canada. Emr has the same as an american emt and you cant even find jobs for emr unless on the rigs. Guess it sucks to be in US . Sorry typed this on my phone must be bad grammer but most ems workers need to find a new line of work lol Sorry for sounding like a jerk but i know wayyyyy too many ems people that are just plain unrespectable besides the job they do There are still EMR positions in Alberta that are non rigs with things such as IFT or in the more rural areas (I think I saw a few postings last week or so), however I think we are seeing those positions disappear mainly due to the level of care that an EMR can actually give. As well, working in the rural areas we also have many EMR first responders/volunteer fire fighters etc. As for many being bitter, I find people do get burnt out due to mistreatment/stress but with saying that most of the people I have met in this career have just been absolutely awesome. The EMTs/Paramedics in the United States seem to have a huge wage variance depending on where they work and if they are BLS/ALS. In Canada the salary is a little better, varying from $16 - $26/hr for PCPs, ACPs will make more depending on where they are working. Most provincial services here don't employ EMTs anymore. What province?
