I should probably clarify this. For a movie with this much star power and over-the-top potential, it disappointed. I expected something more like Crank, like an almost-action-comedy "man's man" action movie. It just seemed to compromise in too many ways and play down the middle. Playing it 'safe' is exactly the opposite of what a movie like this should do. It didn't hype the heroes up into the kind of over-the-top badasses the 80's and 90's films did. It wasn't deep cinema, and it wasn't a balls-to-the-wall, twelve-year-old-me's dream action film either. I know I wasn't the only guy who thought this. Most of my friends were all 'oh you just don't like it bc you're the artsy PC type.' In fact it was just the opposite; the one time I wanted to see hilariously preposterous machismo, silly/bad acting, and a lot of explosions on display, I got disappointed. It felt like a bait-and-switch. Afterwards several of my friends agreed with me.

The first one played it way to safe and was actually very disappointing. See my above post.

It's a damn shame only once a blue moon does a good testosterone filled movie like this come out.

Nothing more, nothing less. Stallone isn't trying to impress the new crowd of viewers, he's bringing back his old fans.

The action scenes in The Expendables were shit. Too dark and not enough awesome. It's like they tried too hard to make it realistic rather than cheesy.

Though I think the first one was a little shy on the trigger given the amount of testosterone it had
