I thought I was watching something from Sodenburgh: Big names and that's it to keep the balloon up. I won't see this, I'm just surprised they are making #2. Just saw the trailer and I'm probably going to fall for this bullshit again just to see Li and Arnold again. Fuck.

But there's just no reason to make a sequel on such a weak concept except the continued fatigue of fresh ideas in cinema. =( I feel the same. The first one was basically a selfparody of the type of movies these guys were usually in. It was like a oneliner or a pun joke, it might make you laugh the first time you hear it, but beyond that it's forgettable. This seems like a bunch of guys trying to make money off nostalgia. I thought there was some "decent" bits to the first one, like the scene in the tunnel where all the bad guys are just getting shred to pieces. Or the (fully) automatic grenade launcher thing. But I'm not going to watch the second.

I actually laughed through the entire first movie, but I've seen a lot of b-movies since, so the novelty may have worn off. Still, I have to watch, even if it is the same desire to look at a crash on the side of the road that makes me want to see this movie.

the sport kinda killed my enthusiasm for all other forms of "choreographed" martial arts/fight scene themed movies. only thing left for me to watch are the krav/kali arnis scenes by mercs in movies. Meaning I lost all admiration for these movie tough guys if they're either martial artists or just rhoided up actors. Aldo can probably kick everyone's ass if they fought him 1v1 ala bloodsports style lol

The Expendables is more like an homage to the ton of utter crap movies with giant explosions. Red Scoprion... Phantom Commando... American Fighter, Missing in action or whatever they are called... Movies that had Chuk Norris, Van Damme or Dolph Lundgren in them... Die Hard and Rambo 1 are hardly just "action flicks". Rambo 2 + 3 compare splendid to the expendables.. I should probably clarify this. For a movie with this much star power and over-the-top potential, it disappointed. I expected something more like Crank, like an almost-action-comedy "man's man" action movie. It just seemed to compromise in too many ways and play down the middle. Playing it 'safe' is exactly the opposite of what a movie like this should do. It didn't hype the heroes up into the kind of over-the-top badasses the 80's and 90's films did. It wasn't deep cinema, and it wasn't a balls-to-the-wall, twelve-year-old-me's dream action film either. I know I wasn't the only guy who thought this. Most of my friends were all 'oh you just don't like it bc you're the artsy PC type.' In fact it was just the opposite; the one time I wanted to see hilariously preposterous machismo, silly/bad acting, and a lot of explosions on display, I got disappointed. It felt like a bait-and-switch. Afterwards several of my friends agreed with me.

If you don't wanna see that, don't watch it. If you accept that entertainment is fun, even if it's no particularly wholesome or intellectual, see it. I liked it :3

I liked it :3 pretty much how i feel. if you go in expecting ANYTHING but dudes killing other dudes for 2 hours... why did u go see it? The movie is kind of a joke to begin with... "So.. what if we take EVERY big action star and cram them into one movie... and have them kill a million people.... no plot. no story. not much dialogue."... i give u the expendables 1 and 2. expecting more than what it is makes you bad not the movie.

Absolutely spot on. People go expecting something akin to The Bourne Trilogy in terms of action/plot/suspense etc - but its just there for a bit LOL paying of homage to the 80's-90's action movie scene ![]()

What a piece of shit. Name, join date, post count. Downloaded the movie. Well didn't expect much from your post. Watched it last night. Wasn't expecting anything but lots of shooting. Did not disappoint.
