The first one was pretty good, but I get the feeling this one will just be bad overall.

WTF? People actually liked Expendables 1? I saw it and thought: wow, this movie is just terrible. Not even laughingly enjoyable or remotely interesting in terms of action. Don't get me wrong, I get suckered into anything involving: Dinosaurs, Explosions, Giant Robots, Predatorial Aliens, etc. But this just was so stream-line boring.

I thought I was watching something from Sodenburgh: Big names and that's it to keep the balloon up. I won't see this, I'm just surprised they are making #2.

Just saw the trailer and I'm probably going to fall for this bullshit again just to see Li and Arnold again. Fuck.

If they drop the stupid editing on the fight scenes, it could be good. I just HATE when they switch cameras every second, first movie was trash.

When I watched the first movie, I threw away any expectations I had for a plot. Because of that, the first movie was ridiculously awesome. I will definitely do the same for this.

The Expendables was all about the actors making self-references and satire. Was an awesomely humorous movie.

The thing is, the first one was actually kind of funny. It was ridiculous but it very nearly captured what it was parodying. But there's just no reason to make a sequel on such a weak concept except the continued fatigue of fresh ideas in cinema.

The first one was absolute garbage - it was meant to be an action film that reminded us of the 90s but it just looked like a 2011 action B-movie (similar to those crappy Python vs Giant Shark style movies).

I feel the same. The first one was basically a selfparody of the type of movies these guys were usually in. It was like a oneliner or a pun joke, it might make you laugh the first time you hear it, but beyond that it's forgettable. This seems like a bunch of guys trying to make money off nostalgia. I thought there was some "decent" bits to the first one, like the scene in the tunnel where all the bad guys are just getting shred to pieces. Or the (fully) automatic grenade launcher thing. But I'm not going to watch the second.

You're crazy, motherfucking Norris, Arnie and Willis and Van Damme all picked up their guns again for this one and you think it will be bad????

To be fair this is targeted at males who grew up watching 90's action movies.

fucking shit I am happy that there's more manly man from the 90's but can't they get Steven "fucking dragon sensei" Seagal? will still watch this with only a boner in my mind. I can't wait for Chuck Norris to roundhouse kick someone while someone else throws a knife through their sternum while they are being shot repeatedly :D

I actually laughed through the entire first movie, but I've seen a lot of b-movies since, so the novelty may have worn off. Still, I have to watch, even if it is the same desire to look at a crash on the side of the road that makes me want to see this movie.

There needs to be a scene where someone (possibly Statham) handshake-arm wrestles Schwarzenegger, asks "what's the matter? Your boss got you pushing too many pencils?", then wins the arm wrestle

WTF? People actually liked Expendables 1? I saw it and thought: wow, this movie is just terrible. Not even laughingly enjoyable or remotely interesting in terms of action. I thought I was watching something from Sodenburgh: Big names and that's it to keep the balloon up. I won't see this, I'm just surprised they are making #2.

Just saw the trailer and I'm probably going to fall for this bullshit again just to see Li and Arnold again. Fuck.

I had the same thoughts..and yet I still bought it, still watch it and damnit I AM going to buy and watch the second one..

It's an action movie, it's not suppose to be good or have story. they just kill things and blow shit up and that is all that truly matters! This movie will be a masterpiece.

I thought the first movie did a great job of making strong, admirable characters to fit the typical setting of an action movie. The writing was geared towards entertainment to be sure, but by no means shallow either. I really hope that the second movie has the same quallities, and that more movies follow the same approach. I similarly enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard.

i hate seeing fake fights now that i know that theres something out there that's really full contact and real in MMA/UFC.
the sport kinda killed my enthusiasm for all other forms of "choreographed" martial arts/fight scene themed movies.
only thing left for me to watch are the krav/kali arnis scenes by mercs in movies.

Meaning I lost all admiration for these movie tough guys if they're either martial artists or just rhoided up actors. Aldo can probably kick everyone's ass if they fought him 1v1 ala bloodsports style lol

Sorry but the first one was a piece of shit - speaking as someone who was in his late teens in the 90s. It did not remind me of a 90s action flick at all and paled in comparison to movies like Rambo/Die Hard/etc.

The explosions did not make you go awwwwwww shiiit niggaaaa, the action scenes were hard to follow, a shitty car chase scene, and Jet Li getting his ass kicked what the fuck?

Reminded me of shitty modern movies like Rogue Assassin or that piece of shit Statham movie Blitz.

Well.. Rambo 1 and Die Hard were about the very best action flicks there were in the 80ies/90ies.

The Expendables is more like an homage to the ton of utter crap movies with giant explosions. Red Scoprion... Phantom Commando... American Fighter, Missing in action or whatever they are called...

Movies that had Chuk Norris, Van Damme or Dolph Lundgren in them... Die Hard and Rambo 1 are hardly just "action flicks". Rambo 2 + 3 compare splendid to the expendables.. Well, they are actually worse..

I didn't really like the first one. Hopefully this one's better.

I should probably clarify this. For a movie with this much star power and over-the-top potential, it disappointed. I expected something more like Crank, like an almost-action-comedy "man's man" action movie. It just seemed to compromise in too many ways and play down the middle. Playing it 'safe' is exactly the opposite of what a movie like this should do. It didn't hype the heroes up into the kind of over-the-top badasses the 80's and 90's films did. It wasn't deep cinema, and it wasn't a balls-to-the-wall, twelve-year-old-me's dream action film either.

I know I wasn't the only guy who thought this. Most of my friends were all 'oh you just don't like it bc you're the artsy PC type.' In fact it was just the opposite; the one time I wanted to see hilariously preposterous machismo, silly/bad acting, and a lot of explosions on display, I got disappointed. It felt like a bait-and-switch. Afterwards several of my friends agreed with me.

They really need to get rid of Jason Statham, the guy just does not fit in these type of movies in my oppinion. Jet Li is fine cuz he doesn't chew the scenery like Jason does, and I really like that they got JCVD and Norris for this. Sounds like another mindless but fun movie. I though the 1st one was ok but forgettable, hopefully this will be a bit better.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Stallone isn't trying to impress the new crowd of viewers, he's bringing back his old fans.

Actually far, far less. The action scenes in The Expendables were shit. Too dark and not enough awesome. It's like they tried too hard to make it realistic rather than cheesy.

There's actually a woman in that poster, amusingly enough

But this movie is probably the epitome of MURICA. I mean seriously.

Except most of the characters in the movie and the team itself is international.

Just saw the movie and I loved it. It was much better than the first one. It is such a fun action movie to watch and I loved how some of the lines referenced some of the characters' famous movies. I was disappointed that Jet Li and Van Damme didn't have a whole lot of screen time. Van Damme was a pretty badass villain and I love how they gave his character name, Jean Vilain... lol. I was relieved that the movie didn't have the trendy shaky cam style during action scenes and you can see every single scene just fine. It was an overall fun movie to watch and a good way to end the summer movies for me.

Oh no, I just said that because you mentioned it being the manly version of the last supper. Wasn't trying to be sexist or anything >.<

Good to hear though :D I'm definitely surprised, for one hehe. I haven't seen the first one, but refrained from doing so because I heard it was quite terrible. Might go see this then

A lot of shooting stuff and famous people, but there was no substance in the movie at all.

Then again, my friends said I should've expected that.

It's mindless entertainment with guns, explosions, muscular celebrities, and a couple cheap laughs.
If you don't wanna see that, don't watch it. If you accept that entertainment is fun, even if it's no particularly wholesome or intellectual, see it. I liked it :3

pretty much how i feel.

if you go in expecting ANYTHING but dudes killing other dudes for 2 hours... why did u go see it? The movie is kind of a joke to begin with... "So.. what if we take EVERY big action star and cram them into one movie... and have them kill a million people.... no plot. no story. not much dialogue."... i give u the expendables 1 and 2.

expecting more than what it is makes you bad not the movie.

I thought the first movie had too much story in it and not enough action. And I was fully expecting zero story and total action, too. But what little of a plot they had, I believe was too much. I really do. With that many stars, it should've been one indefinite, massive explosion that would make Michael Bay envious. Maybe with this second one, (especially with the inclusion of Norris and Arnie) they learned from the mistakes of the first and did just that.

Absolutely spot on. People go expecting something akin to The Bourne Trilogy in terms of action/plot/suspense etc - but its just there for a bit LOL paying of homage to the 80's-90's action movie scene

Watched the first part, got bored at all the guns and missles, saw Jet Li beat up about five dudes with frying pans, skipped through the rest of the movie to see if there were any other Jet Li scenes, watched the part where Chuck Norris came out and makes some Cobra joke, did nto see anymore Jet Li, too much Stallone being the old meathead that he is, shift deleted. What a piece of shit.

Watched it last night. Wasn't expecting anything but lots of shooting. Did not disappoint.

I don't think you quite understand the point and premise of the Expendables movies.

Same here haha. When everything blew up and then Stallone was like "wtf happened?", my girlfriend goes "It's Chuck Norris. I bet you anything it's Chuck Norris." CN came out and the audience went crazy.
