Hello Teamliquidans, I'm going to tell you right off the bat what this is about: My feelings (this is here you can disagree!) towards the attitudes of teamliquid netizens flaming the coaches for their choice of lineup, player's "sloppiness" etcetera.
- People need to better to appreciate how the players are playing. If a player looses, people will often scream that the player lost was at fault and often completely neglect the efforts of the winning player.
I could quote examples from recent LR threads which I think were some of the worst offenders... Dont get me wrong though, there is a large difference between going "why o why didn't you do xx build" and "holy shit that's some of the worst xx usage I ever seen", now don't get me wrong once again but I seem to hear the latter alot more than the former sentence. Sometimes the latter is what really describes the situation, but it makes me cringe and my stomache turn when I've just watched two players play their heart out and one of them is simply outclassed by a small amount in the end. I'll watch games like that, satisfied and happy since that is what BW is about to me, even if the player I root for loses. Then I'll often go to the LR thread to post something which just so happens to reflects my thoughts about that particular game. Then (too) often there will be some people yelling at one of the players which were playing, I don't think they actually thought the player was playing as bad as they made it out to be, but rather disappointed that the player they rooted for didn't deliver. That's okay I suppose if the loser made the game ended like this... But if the game looked like this It creates a nausea-ish feeling in my stomache + Show Spoiler [I am not kidding you...] +I felt sorry for sOo after that game and then watchign some people in the LR thread claiming some of the worst defiler lurker usage ever... I think that wraps it up.
Will you guys stop yelling at coaches for sending x player out and not x ace player (people should be able to guess what match I am referring to here without too much effort). The players and the coaches know what they are capable of the best. We, the fans, are dumbfounded compared to the decisions of the coaches especially. There's several reasons why this and that happend instead of what didn't. I am gonna point out some of the more obvious ones
- Experience, this were more common last year regarding ace matches... if you guys don't remember what I am referring to I think I will help up your memories by the terms of "trolluary",+ Show Spoiler [this comic...] + and alot of people don't remember it (or atleast don't mention it) but CJ was infamous for weird ace match choices like this one.
- A simple one, one player had worse practice seasons than any other player and as a consequence of that was sent out.
- To snipe a certain player. The lineups has to be unpredictable, or a similarmatch to snow vs flash (as I linked above) are sure to happen...
- We will never know, but we can keep guessing right?
Whew that turned out to be a lot of text.. But I had to get this out of the system + Show Spoiler [tl:dr] + No you don't. Read it through you..!

I don't know if i agree with you... sometimes players play completely awful in relation to their supposed competition or fail horribly to live up to reasonable expectations, and for every hater there's always some smartass going "lol if you can't beat the pro's you have no right to criticize them!!111" which i find even more annoying -.- goes for coaches too obv!

I don't think they actually thought the player was playing as bad as they made it out to be, but rather disappointed that the player they rooted for didn't deliver.
Bingo.
Player doesn't live up to expectations: person becomes irrational, unreasonable, confused, hurt, frustrated, annoyed and bothered by the inability to perform by expectations.
Hence all the words. I don't know if what you're doing is really worthwhile or falling on deaf ears.

Which is also why I posted it in blogs section and not BW general

Its fine if the snipe works correctly but when it doesn't, the coach looks really dumb.

Clicked your profile, saw the KT logo, immediately was thinking about the most recent match with 4 PvZs against SKT.

there were no questionable decisions for yesterday's games.
every action by coach lee was clearly understandable, yet he gets so much flak these days.

This pretty much sums up how I feel when my favorites lose.
...and every time Polt wins.
I can't help it.

You simply can't defend January's coaching, her ACE picks have always been horrendous. I agree about the ripping on players like SoO, that was an awesome game. Stats was really stretched by all the multipronged attacks which got a little sloppy towards the end, which can happen when there's alot going on and you're vs reaver storm. To call it the worst defiler usage ever is just retarded and demeans stats victory (pretty sure it was mainly skt1 fanboys). Admittedly we do the same for action but at least it's justified

tl;dr made me laugh.
I feel that bashing players and coaches is just what comes from being invested in a team. You never want to admit the other team was better, just that your own team didn't perform... regardless of how nonsensical it may be.
I know... I'm a Phillies fan... and... well... you know.
We just have to make sure there's more love for the players and coaches in the scene than there is hate.

There's allways another perspective and if memory serves then Stork has been consistent ace match choice in the periods where he isn't semi-slumping
And Action really gets more flak than he should, he has had no mindblwoing fails this season so far + Show Spoiler [spoiler for those who dont know recent…] + (both his games vs FBH and Bisu were pretty much their win even if action makes a few mistakes when the game is out of his flow)

It's part of PL man. The guys who still post and follow PL/OSL are the hardcores and we've studied the game to death. It's all relative as well. So, when someone calls a player terrible take it with a grain of salt. Whether they be a fan of the player that lost or comparing their play to their opponent. It's a gravy train.
I wouldn't put much else thought into it. The SC2 LR threads are much, much worse with all the double standards and other bullshit.
The BW LR threads are much, much better and there are people out there who exist who are unbiased such as myself. I'm just brutally honest about every player I observe. =)

Its a LR thread, people's passion, emotions and such get poured into that, you shouldn't take it too serious. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the KT vs SKT match recently, but I agree with what the KT coach did apart from maybe one pick(Mind would perhaps be a better choice, but TvP is meh and the SKT tosses have a decent vT record).
Its a LR thread, shouldn't take it serious. If there is any player who gets more flak then anyone else its Jaehoon, I like Jaehoon, even with his mishappenings and his sometimes faulty play I really believe in him everytime he plays, the LR thread goes nuts whenever Jaehoon loses but I don't mind, why?Because it is in the heat of the moment and its an LR thread. In your example its Stats vs SoO, people were mad at SoO because its SKT vs KT, one heated rivalry, ofcourse people get mad at SoO for losing and not using X or not doing Y, why?because they care, they care about their team and they want to win , not 3-1, not 3-2, they want a 3-0.

I c what u did there.
No, we do not have the same information as the coaches or the prepartion for the maps so we can not judge fairly but it is fun for many to theorycrafy about how they would do it, as it is the same how people theorycraft how they would play, e.g Action shouldn't have skipped lurkers against Bisu for example. We think we know better then the coaches/players, we most of the time, simply don't because we have no idea whats going on in their heads or the preperation.
Besides, it is also a thing, its a thing where people make fun of, be it Trolluary, be it SKT zergs, be it KTFlash(or stats)be it Jaedong Oz or be it Best's dohsairs(although they haven't been showing up lately) its sometimes reccuring and maybe not funny but certainly amusing to some people that such feats happen, so once again they show their emotion and passion in the LR thread.
Once the games are usually over then people start theorycrafting more seriously, I believe the overal consensus in the SKT vs KT thread when everything was done was that Coach Lee made the best decision possible.

I partly agree. I think the most disappointing thing about Broodwar is that the talent pool is so small compared to other sports. A lot of the newer and even older players really struggle to keep up with the rest of them, or contrarilly don't have the work ethic to keep up. You really have to hold them to a different standard, bearing in mind that Starcraft is still a young sport. I don't hold Soo's play vs Stats against him at all though. he did somewhat poorly in the midgame as I remember, and fought pretty hard to try and come back in the lategame, in a way that I found admirable. He's still fairly new to televised games and hasn't come into his own yet. Give him time. What's more regrettable is the many players who have been on the scene for years already, and still have a < 50% win rate.
