Animations, skills, everything is fluid. The art is nice, really sets the tone. The story is rather bleh, but don't let that dissuade you from an awesome Wii game. The soundtrack is very good too. Another action RPG for the PS1, its very light-hearted and full of humor. Think Zelda with more RPG elements. A highly complex "Dwarf-simulator" that lets you command dwarves as you would lemmings, and has the awesome theme of "losing is fun". Lots of fun, considering we only had a master system when I was a kid, this was the equivalent of Zelda for me. Has many favourable reviews, ranging from mid 70's to mid 80's. Definitely wasn't a huge hit, but it was lots of fun! p.s you can find a playthrough/speedrun video here + Show Spoiler + btw OP: this is an awesome thread, thank you for making it, many many good gems in here. | ||

Believe it or not, it's a pretty hard narrative/puzzle game. Clayanimation and voice-acting. I never beat it, but my God is it incredibly long and very good! | ||

Has some of the best art direction and graphics on the ps3, even though came out quite early in the ps3's lifespan. I'm not sure how "hidden" of a gem it is but I feel it's definitely under-appreciated, and ps3 needs some love ^^ | ||

Hardly a "hidden" gem but sooooo underrated... many post-era reviews rate him in the top20 of games EVER. And game developers were polled a few years ago about which games made the RPG genre rocket forward... Top 2 was Fallout, annnd PS:T PC pure RPG in D&D, Planescape. Features 800,000 words, many choices and discussions with your pals, you can basically do the whole game without fighting if you want to, it's so.... neatly developed, and the plot is awesome. ![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/06/Planescape-torment-box.jpg) I would nominate Planescape: Torment; not only because it still represents the best-written and most engagingly populated role-playing game I've played to-date, but because it was one of the first adult role playing games ever made. By adult, I don't mean that it contained restricted or child-inappropriate content, I mean that it looked at important issues of morality, guilt, and atonement in a serious and "adult" way. This game is an awesome strategy game. You start with a province, and your goal is to conquer the whole Japan while having sex. But the sex part just makes the scenario funny and is not taking anything from the game. (but still, don't play it in front of your childrens :o) You build armies, recruit captains (there are a lot of heroes captains), you build relationship with your captains (a little like in persona), you equip your hero.... The game exist only in Japanese, but a translation patch exist (launch the patch, it'll detect your CD and install the game in full english). There is a new game+ mode, multiple routes (and each route is like a different game), there is a strategy only mode (like Risk). Be careful, if you like these kind of games, there's a good chance this game will eat 3 months of your life. Very easy to get addicted. To accomplish this, you are given light sources, mirrors to deflect the beams, prisms to split a white beam into colored ones, etc... No need for a Ph.D in optics though, the gameplay is very easy to understand. However, as in any good puzzle game, things get trickier when you have more and more targets to bathe in light in tortuous levels, with less and less stuff to use. The graphics are pretty bland, the music is boring and repetitive, but most importantly, the level design is very clever, and there are levels aplenty to test your wit. Honestly, I don't think you can play this game for hours on end as it will bore you or get you mad. But if you have anything between 5 minutes and 2 hours to spare, this game is just perfect to make time fly by. | ||

I can't work out if this is missing from the list because you all remember it, so it's not a hidden gem, or because you're all too young to have heard of it xD But the younger generation deserve to play this incredible game. Edit: what the FUCK? Grim Fandango is a hidden gem? I am so old :| That's like looking at one of these lists in 10 years and seeing Skyrim in there... | ||
