How the hell do you play Mafia without looking into the other people's faces? I played a lot of Mafia when I was younger and I always kinda thought that seeing the other players, trying to analyze their nerves, small tells in behaviour etc... is the point of the game. How can you tell if someone is bluffing from a bunch of letters on the screen? analyze their posts, find small tells in their posting behaviour!

How can you tell if someone is bluffing from a bunch of letters on the screen? You try to determine motive given the proper context. You observe behavior patterns that don't seem to be aligned with your agenda. Its a subtle and requires a lot of work and reading, but generally you try to look for inconsistencies in behavior and what they say, like they are pushing an agenda not of their own.
I have never played in person, but I have played probably over 20 games on TL, and being good is hard and requires time and work, but more important the ability to learn.

It also requires you to not be named RoL. Seriously that name leads to being terribad daily.

Personally I prefer forum mafia notably more over real-life or IRC mafia; each of these three require different skill sets and it's requirement of the former that appeals to me the most. Of course, it does chew up your time like no other...

I wouldn't recommend everyone play it unless they know they will be active in it.
I've been checking up from time to time and see you guys still have major issues with activity. Glad Ace finally decided to do mini-games that take a half hour to play.
The big ones will always have a problem with activity unfortunately. ;/
