I'm actually disgusted with this thread. About 25% of people in the poll have some sort of problem with the artwork, and it is a documented and apparently common phobia.
You all disregard this as silly, but if I made a poll about adding options to help color blind people differentiate units better, I'm sure there would be overwhelming support for the idea.
Its just the art design of a small section of a unit that might not even make it into the game, and yet you all are so zealous about keeping it, even though it makes 25% of the people who have voted in this thread uncomfortable? What the hell?
I'm not even going to get into the fact that Starcraft 2 is supposed to be a spectator's game/sport!

What the hell? An option to change it would probably satisfy everyone. Actually getting rid of an artwork that many people think is fucking cool (myself included) is not so cool. For a ridiculous example, imagine if players weren't allowed to pick certain colours because the colourblind would struggle (red/orange or blue/purple for example).
So as long as the fix doesn't hurt the majority it'd be wonderful; I'm sorry to hear that such a phobia exists.

And if your extreme example was true? Its a small price to pay, jeez.

This thread is going to cause people to feel itchy when they watch the video, 'cause they'll be hyper-aware of it and trigger the sensation as a result.
Edit: lol, this isn't even recognised by DSM? well then come the fuck on.
Also, Swarm Host's biggest problem seems to be its ridiculous ineffectiveness =/ Just saw like 6 of them kill SCVs slower than 12 lings =/

A poll like this on its own does not show much more than simply 79% does not feel disgusted with the holes on the unit’s back while 21% does, and 65% would not prefer a different artwork where 35% would.
A poll itself will not tell anything about the reasons about why the players have the opinions on the issue. There are numerous reasons for people having the opinion they have. People can feel disgusted of something, while that disgust actually translates into a positive view on the unit design. Personally, I think Zerg units are supposed to look a bit creepy and disgusting; they are the Zerg after all. Maybe a person resembles the Swarm host with a spider (arachnophobia) and thus finds it disgusting. Trying to connect this issue with Trypophobia won’t explain or solve anything. I’m pretty sure that 475 people that have answered they find the unit disgusting does not suffer from Trypophobia.
The same goes to why people might prefer a different artwork. There are numerous of reasons on that as well. Maybe, someone find the unit design simply too weak compared to what one would expect out of Blizzard.
I find that you’re defensive approach on this issue does not help your cause. I find your edits in the OP a bit over the edge, as well as, just show your hard effort to link this to Trypophobia. If people disagree with you, that’s just how it is. You cannot expect the whole world to agree with you.
TLDR: You’re methodology does not show much other than some simple numbers. Without context and further research, you cannot conclude that 1 out 10 suffer from Trypophobia and the unit design should be changed.

Their spawns are much more like zealots than zerglings, but with worse burst (so they don't snipe workers super effectively). Set them loose on a pack of marines and they'll tear through (this is all from playing the HoTS custom which uses the same numbers that were at blizzcon).

u know what previously i had no problem
I watched the first part of the video and im like psh doesnt bother me
But then i looked again later andw atched the whole thing
I think the one that really started to mess with me was the one with the fingers cut open
That really really bothered me, it was just so disturbing in the way that it was UGLY. It didn't help when someone posted that he wants to cut the holes off. That just made me get this "phobia" i think. I'm not afraid of it though, it's just that it's... ugly/disturbing to look at now. I have a huge urge to cut those nasty finger tips even farther hoping that i dont have to see those holes/sacs.
Then it got worse when I saw the girl with the arms. Actually i saw the girl before the fingers do i didn't much a problem. But then when i looked at the fingers and then at the girl... the girl bothered me too. Not just the holes but those weird balls/sacs in the holes in the girl's skin. That's just really ugly to me and makes me want to cut them off... ugh
Also a question about the fish/frogs. Wtf is happening? The fish seems to move, but there's holes in the fish. Is it dead or alive or what did the frogs cut the holes open? so strange....

It would be pretty bullshit to remove purple/orange from the game rather than just add an option similar to the team colours where one is green, other is red (only whatever suits the colourblind best).

It's a live animal called the Surinam Toad.

Yeah, something like this. People aren't necessarily disgusted by the appearance of holes. They're disgusted by the flesh eating parasites or whatever they are on actual human flesh, and those can easily make anyone UNCOMFORTABLE, while they might have no issue looking at swarm hosts producing locusts nonstop.

I couldn't make it to the end of the video.
Oh, this wasn't the see how long before you climax game?

so do you veto xel'naga caverns because of the caverns?

It's not documented, not common, and not even a phobia, as understood by clinical psychiatry. It's just a bunch of people getting disgusted by a video about frogs.
But yeah, keep up your ridiculous outrage, who cares about facts and actual science, when it gets in the way of your white knighting on the Internet!

I see it's a kind of frog lol, it's normal.
Ugh I wonder is the picture with the fingers real? why the heck is it like that? xD

Yea. Even in the video they link, they say that the term of the phobia was invented by urban dictionary. Which is hardly a credible scientific source.
So...in short, there are some people who think that these things look gross, and convince themselves that they feel itchy because of it

I don't know if it should be changed all that much, I mean aren't zergs supposed to be disgusting?
|
The entire support for your thread, the video, is a load of rubbish. It advertises itself as a "psychological test" although his only source just happens to be urbandictionary.com
In fact a real psychologist had this to say about it:
"Trypophobia is not an official phobia recognized in scientific literature. For many (though perhaps not all) who have it, it’s probably not even a real phobia, which the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders says must interfere “significantly with the person’s normal routine.” Having just looked at a bunch of holey pictures and videos, I’m severely grossed out, but I can still write this story."
I'm not going to sit here and say that you made all this up and I'm sure that the image may make some people uncomfortable. However, if you want to make a real case for your argument, give us something better than a youtube video made by some bored college student.

IMO the Swarm Host's artwork is freaking awesome. The shell is the least cool looking part of it to me, but the design of the head and body structure is awesome. By far the coolest looking main body design that I've seen for a zerg so far, yes, the shell does look like it needs to be downsized a bit.
Anyone here zoomed in on a hydra ingame? I've got to say, compared to cinematic versions they look like fucking retards. The Swarm Host is the one unit the zerg has that actually manages to be zergy and look cool IMO.

i hate all the smart ass responses to this thread. its not an artwork thing its an actual mental thing that affects people like myself. TBH if blizz keeps the artwork i really dont know how i can play and look at that thing all the time, it bugs the shit out of me.I really hope they change this and i really hope people stop trolling and making fun of this.
