He clearly means, he sees 'esport' as something that can lure people in without any prior knowledge.. people just enjoying the spectacle of it.
Isn't he just stating a fact? It's not like he's saying BW is the only competitive game that ever existed.
No. He's defining a word in a way most people don't use it and then making a statement based on that definition. That was the entire problem. His definition of "eSports" is basically my (and a lot of other people's) definition of "spectator sport." I mean, just talking about regular ol' sports, there are a shit ton of sports out there that aren't very popular to spectate unless you're actually involved or a relative of someone who's involved. Just take something like kendo, for instance. Exactly. Its like making a post where we define Cats as Elephants and then ending with the conclusion "so it turns out a lot of people have pet elephants." A lot of people got disproportionately offended by this though. It's because throughout that entire post, he basically implied that every other competitive gaming scene out there is somehow not as legit. That's why people were offended. Not only that, but it seems as if he simply didn't know about any scene except Starcraft. I mean, he may not have intended to hurt other people, but when you post something as controversial as this, you have got to do your research and you've got to be delicate about it.
He should've gotten a second opinion on that post before writing it. Or at least he should've reread it twenty times before posting it and asked himself, "Could I possibly be hurting anyone here with my words?"
He easily could've just said: "BW is the best spectator sport and here is why." And he wouldn't have gotten as much backlash for it, because it's a damn good spectator sport, and I don't think anyone can argue with that.

Milkis, you translations are awesome! I loved the way you translated everything as you also seem to translate their emotions as well.
Remember all of the hate john got at first? It was totally wrong and slowly people came to appreciate john for what he was to the community. I would not want anyone else translating for john in the GSL and I don't really want anyone one other than you translating for MLG.
As far as "esports". I actually don't really enjoy watching esports other than scbw and sc2. So I understand that aspect, but please stay, we need you!

Bye dude, guess we will never know if SC2 could change your opinion. Best of luck in the future.

I believe Milkis BW blog was full of shit and insulting to Quake, Counter-Strike, Street Fighter and other communities that have helped define eSports, but fuck man, at least defend yourself if you truly believe you're right. Don't quit. This is the perfect attitude to take. If you can't defend your views, they are not worth having. If you can't deal with some of the negativity, thats okay, but trying to blame the community as a whole is just silly, as most people have been hugely supportive of you. Look at all the pro Milkis Reddit threads that exist.

You're like that guy who when his girlfriend asks him if she looks fat in this dress tells her she could lose a few pounds and then wonders why he got slapped. You do a ton for the community and I wish you would stay, but I don't know what you expected to happen after you made such a scathing and controversial post.

lol wow BW community never treated you like that :\

This is truly a loss to the community, those expressing negative criticism at an extreme degree were members of a tiny minority, i firmly believe the vast majority of the community loves you and your efforts, I'm so sorry you feel this way. Best of luck in your future endeavours!

Your decision makes me really sad. Nobody else has enough patience and good will towards translating all the Korean articles, reactions and everything in between. Sure you have your own opinion towards esports and everything esport related that conflicts with some other opinions out there, but you are entitled to your own opinion and should be takes as such. The fact that the community took djWheat's lead into criticizing everything you've done for this community makes me feel ashamed of being a part of it. I can only say I'm sorry for the time and effort you have put for our sake and hope that you will find more understanding and appreciation in your future endeavors. Good luck!

If Milkies is so upset by the haters, why not just ignore them and only concern yourself with the positive members of the community?
Huge lulsy overreaction IMO.
