Also, Chill, your personal moderation doctrine consists largely of "Second and third chances never work in terms of banning someone, because people simply don't change". Is this perspective mirrored by others in the staff? Is it safe to assume that, given how many nth chances are provided to repeat offenders, your viewpoint is in the significant minority?

Could you (anybody on staff) explain in detail the concept of hell-bans and IP bans? Here's what I know: IP bans keep you from ever registering an account again, and if I heard right, visiting the website? And with hell-bans, you don't actually know you are banned, but nobody can see your posts? It is my understanding that these methods were used more in the earlier days, and that now you stick more to just perma bans. So, in addition, why did hell-bans and IP bans stop being used? edit: Oh yes, and which academy of witches and wizardry did R1CH attend when growing up?

I think this was already discussed fairly detailed in the old ATLSA.I don't know the exact page it was on but I'm sure your a smart guy and can find it with some effort Btw I'm not trying to become the new Blind-Rawr here I just thought I could help the guy out by pointing it out. IP bans are often ineffective, but they are still being used. Mostly against spammers / bots.
