This blog is about Mother 3 (also known as Earthbound in the states).
I feel that this game is one of the most underrated and overseen RPGs of all time in the SNES era style (even though it is a GBA game, but more of that later).
I played a LOT of RPGs on a lot of consoles, but of all RPGs Mother 3 impressed me the most in the points of originality and style.
It is just a whole different story and world than the usual Final Fantasy- or DQ-RPG.
Sadly this masterpiece never has been released outside of Japan. First it was planned as a SNES game, then as a N64 DD game and with a lot of forth and back over the years it was finally
released after 12 (!) years of developing on the Game Boy Advanced in 2006.
Don't let your expectations be lowered by the anticpation of playing a GBA game - the graphics and the design are lovely! Because the game was never released outside of Japan there is no official english version of the game. But you can find a very good fan translation which was done by some rabid fans over the time of 2 years. The result is outstanding, the texts are so high quality and funny. Also the soundtrack is astounding for a GBA game. The combat system is interesting, because while the battles are round based there are rhythm elements. Well enough blabbering, just play the game and tell me if you like it
Here is a Youtube link where can see some game scenes and stuff about the fan translation
