Introduction
Mafia is about making educated guesses. The objective of the game for town is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town, and Mafia are looking to kill off enough townspeople so that they [the Mafia] will have a majority. Playing a game of Mafia is much like playing a game of poker in that plenty of bluffing will ensue in both. Mafia members are hidden amongst the town members and may manipulate the vote to their liking. In this thread lies is an arena, one where egos run rampant, page numbers expand exponentially, and people wind up dead for one reason or another.
Mafia games operate in cycles. The first part is the day phase, where all people alive vote on somebody to lynch (remove from the game). In this game, on the first day we will be voting on elected roles--Mayor and Sheriff--that will be discussed later. The second phase in a cycle is night. During the night phase, all roles with designated night powers (town-aligned "blue" roles and Mafia) act. Results of lynches and night actions will be disclosed at the end of the respective phases.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread in order to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance or laziness.
General Rules
Cheating: Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town.
Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
Comparing role PM times to determine roles.
Posting screenshots of your inbox.
Posting any PM you receive from a host.
Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
Signing up a smurf account.
Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
For Moderators and Administrators, please don't utilize your special powers. While I can't technically call that cheating let's keep the playing field fair!
Don't cheat and I won't have to trample you.
Posting
Mod Font: This is mod font. It is reserved for game moderators. Please do not use it.
Question Font: This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. Please do us a favor and read the rules before you ask anything, as what want to ask may be covered in the original posts already.
Activity: You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, you will be modkilled. This will affect your ability to join future Mafia games as you will be placed on the ban list.
Of special importance for this game though: if you tend to "lurk" or I see that you are not putting effort into this game, despite not being modkilled you will be unable to participate in my future games.
So please don't get modkilled and put a concerted effort into playing this.
Editing: It is important to maintain all happenings in the thread as they are for future read-throughs. Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. Follow in my spammy stead and double (or even triple) post instead of editing.
Inappropriate posts: Keep it clean. Keep it PG-13.
Account sharing: May be allowable. See me beforehand.
Play to win: Play to maximize your side's chances of winning. While this may sometimes involve bluffs or gambits that may further the other side's agenda, you should always keep victory as your priority. No ragequitting, no giving up your team members, no defecting.
Voting Rules
1. Voting will be done in a separate thread, located here. That thread will only be used for voting. Please do not PM me your vote, as I will not accept it. 2. Vote using the following format: ##Vote Liquid`Sheth. Similarly, change votes by first unvoting: ##Unvote Liquid`Sheth. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. Either Ver or I will update the vote count periodically. 3. No conditional voting. You cannot say "my vote will go on X if A's vote goes on Y." You must actually physically post your vote. 4. You may not vote for yourself or anybody that is dead, outside of the game, or imaginary. 5. At the end of the day, the person with the highest number of votes is lynched (or elected, in the case of day 1). 6. In the event of a tie the person who attained the highest number of votes first loses. 7. Voting is mandatory. You may not abstain.
Signups
Signups are open to players who have proven they do not go inactive in games (I will be checking). Bias will be given toward people who like ponies and kittens.
Game-Specific Rules
Clues: There are no clues. Tidbits about coffee will be dropped every once in a while.
Private Messaging: No PMing.
Time Cycle: This game will follow a 24 hour night and 48 hour day cycle, beginning with Day 1. In the event that neither of the hosts is here around voting deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on hold until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is 03:00 GMT (+00:00), but that is subject to change.
The Election: During the first day cycle instead of choosing somebody to lynch, the town will choose two members to serve as "elected roles" for the rest of the game. Those elected will gain additional powers on top of the ones they may already possess.
Role Reveals: Upon death, the role and affiliation of the deceased will be revealed to all in the thread.
Credits: Ver is cute.
If you have not read all the rules, go back and do so. I will not compensate for ignorance!

This is a semi-open setup. Roles will be disclosed, but numbers will remain hidden. Read this section carefully, as it may be subject to change.
Please note: all roles with night actions please send a PM detailing your action to me and jcarlsoniv. The results of all night actions will be returned with the posting of the next day post.
Townie You may just be a normal player but you are the backbone of the town. Your goal is to help bring the Mafia to justice. You get no special powers but the ability to vote during day. Blue Roles may look pretty but the real power lies with you!
Detective You have the ability to make night investigations. Once per night phase, you may PM me to ask for the role of one player.
Medic You have the ability to prevent one hit on a player of your choice during the night. You may not protect yourself. Each paramedic can only stop one hit and as such if the number of mafia is greater than the number of paramedics on a player then that player will die. You will know if you saved the person. The person will know if he was saved. If you are protecting a veteran, and they are hit, your ability supercedes theirs. A medic can protect someone the night she/he gets killed. They won't be notified of their save though, since they are dead.
Mad Hatter You may lay bombs on one player per night (maximum 2). If you are killed you will throw the switch and detonate them, killing the players (if they aren't protected by extra night lives, paramedics, or bodyguards). You may remove any number of them from players at any time during the night to get them back, but if a player is lynched with one on them while you are still alive you lose that bomb for good. Bombs are refunded if the target is killed during the night.
Vigilante You may, only once during the game, kill a player of your choice during the night. Your hit acts exactly as that of Mafia, meaning it can be used to to take out extra lives or use up Medic protection.
Veteran You get two night lives instead of one! This means it takes at least two successful hits in one night to kill you, or one hit on each of two separate nights. A veteran will be told when they lose one of their night lives. If you get lynched, you die, regardless of whether you have an extra night life remaining.
Jack You can act as a Medic, Veteran, Mason, and Vigilante... but not all at once and not more than twice. You may use two of these four powers during the game: Protect, Mason, and Shoot. You may use the same power twice. Note that your Veteran life is not passive like that of a true Veteran's; you must choose when to activate it, and if it isn't used (as in, you aren't hit that night) it goes away.
Mason At the beginning of every cycle, you may send a PM to me detailing who you would like to Mason with during that cycle. You may PM with that person for the full cycle. You may not choose a person you have already Masoned with for the remainder of the game.
Miller This player is a townie in every way except that if a DT role checks this player, the DT will be told the Miller is a Mafia. The Miller is told that they are a Townie. The Miller will be revealed as a Miller upon their death. The miller is on the side of the Townies, and wins if they win.
Mafia Your goal is to eliminate everyone else in the town. Your ability, as a group, is killing off whomever you decide on at night and knowing the role of each other player in your mafia. You may kill your own members. Mafia killing power will be determined when the game begins. You also must choose the Godfather, Roleblocker, Jack, and/or Framer from among yourselves. These [potentially] four Mafia power roles must be separately distributed, meaning one Mafia member can only possess one of these powers. If you do not choose by the start of night 1, I will randomly choose for you. Mafia will also have a certain number of Masons, which can be given to any Mafia (even those possessing other roles).
Mason At the beginning of every cycle, you may send a PM to me detailing who you would like to Mason with during that cycle. You may PM with that person for the full cycle. You may not choose a person you have already Masoned with for the remainder of the game. The Mafia team will have a set number of people to choose as Masons. Mafia with other roles (Roleblocker, Framer, Godfather) can double up on Mason roles.
Mafia Roleblocker Once per night, you may send in a PM detailing a person you would like to block. That person will be notified that they were blocked, and if the person being blocked has a night action, he or she will not be able to use it. Please note that this ability only pertains to active actions. Passive abilities, such as the Veteran's extra lives, cannot be blocked by mafia.
Mafia Framer Once per night, you may send in a PM detailing a person you would like framed. When framing somebody, you can make them show up as any role that you would like to Detective checks. You may not frame the same person twice. You cannot frame yourself.
Jack You can act as a Medic, Veteran, Mason, and Vigilante... but not all at once and not more than once. You may two of these four powers during the game: Protect, Mason, and Shoot. You may use the same power twice. Note that your Veteran life is not passive like that of a true Veteran's; you must choose when to activate it, and if it isn't used (as in, you aren't hit that night) it goes away.
Godfather The Godfather has the ability to decide what role he will appear to be when a Detective role checks him. It may be any role and must be chosen Day 1 or he will default to Townie role. After your role is chosen you may not change it after that; decisions are final for the whole game.
Mayor You won the election! This provides you a whole new gamut of powers on top of those that you may already have. First, you are immune to role checks by Detectives. Second, you may decide to lynch whomever you would like on day 1. Just send me a PM shortly after you are elected dictating who you like to die. You cannot choose the Sheriff as the day 1 lynch victim. Third, for all future vote your vote counts three times instead of one.
Sheriff You won second place in the election. You cannot be role checked by a Detective. Up to three times in the course of the game, you are able to PM me during the night to incarcerate a player. You are able to PM me during the day with a player to be incarcerated that night. Incarcerated players cannot use any powers the night they are incarcerated. If a mafia is incarcerated, they do not contribute to the determination of Mafia KP (Kill Power), so Mafia KP may be lowered. An incarcerated player cannot be killed or targeted by any actions the night they are incarcerated. Likewise, if a Bodyguard is jailed (incarcerated), he or she does not protect elected roles for that night. You may not incarcerate yourself. The same player cannot be incarcerated twice.
Bodyguard You protect the elected roles. After the election concludes, two Bodyguards are randomly chosen from amongst the pool of Townies. Before Townies are randomly selected as bodyguards though, Mafia may elect to substitute any of their members in for Bodyguards. That means there may be 0, 1, or 2 Mafia acting as Bodyguards instead of townspeople. The town will not know who is selected as bodyguards, but the elected roles will. As long as you (the bodyguards) remain alive, elected roles cannot be killed during the night. However, Mafia bodyguards do not protect town-aligned elected roles! This means that if there are no town-aligned bodyguards left, town-aligned elected roles are in danger of death during the night phase. Town-aligned bodyguards chosen from the pool of Townies will show up as Bodyguards to role checks, and Mafia-aligned bodyguards will show up as Bodyguards regardless of any other powers they might possess.
Double Lynch Usable two times per game, the double lynch means the town lynches two people instead of one for that day. This means on the next day everyone gets two votes to distribute between two different people. The double lynch is activated by voting for it in addition to a player (or players if a double lynch is currently activated). The vote must exceed half the number of players voting that day. For instance, if there are 30 players voting then the town needs 16 votes to use a double lynch. Double lynches may be voted on starting Day 2. You may use double lynches on consecutive days.
