Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it. |

Support BW and support for other games is fine.Just that Kpop has greater momentum..

Also, i'm laughing so hard off my a** each time I read "this descision is ruining esport, esport is dead the end of the world is coming". Guyz...oh guyz... SCBW is not the only reason esport leaves anymore. I love love bw dont get me wrong but as good as the game is, it's getting rly rly old and it will dissapear but it was an amaizing run. Time for next starcraft generation Hope it will bring the last bw players to sc2. 79 pages into the thread and we still have posts like this... Except he is right. Things change.
no, hes wrong about alot of things

I think E-sports in Korea is probably fine. It could only ever handle so much E-sports, and GOM has essentially replaced MBC hasn't it? I mean in terms of there formerly being 2 major E-sports broadcasters in the form of OGN and MBC. We may be losing MBC but we have a much more foreigner friendly GOM in it's place.

that would be true if GOM covered games other than SC2.

I think ITW summed it up pretty nicely with this post by saying
On July 29 2011 05:31 IntoTheWow wrote:Ok, gravity of the situation (imo) + Show Spoiler + Brood War through it's history has been run on 2 channels mainly: OnGameNet (OGN) and MBC Game (MBC).
The two big single leagues Brood War has are OSL (Ongame net StarLeague) and MSL (Mbc StarLeague). There was another single league run by GomTV but it died some time ago (because of KeSPA reasons and things that are not relevant). There are also some off-season single leagues now and then, but those are minor in the grand scheme of things.
The team league (what we call Proleague) is run by both channels together MBC and OGN. There's 2 matches a night, one on each channel. Finals are on both channels at the same time.
These news are important because MBC Game is a channel dedicated to video games. Besides the Brood War main shows (MSL, Proleague), MBC also has other shows like MBC Hero Attack (where TL Attack got the idea from), some shows were commentators play with players, an 'amateur' Brood War league etc.
Besides that MBC hosts shows on other games like Tekken Crash (fighting game), Special Forces (Counter-Strike korean clone) and if I remember correctly other online games like Kart Rider (mario kart online basically).
This means that if MBC is gone, first part of the infrastructure could be gone or re-conditioned for the Kpop music channel. They own a studio where the matches are played.
Commentators could lose their job and people who work here. Some of the people could still work for the music channel I guess: camera guys, lighting, make-up, directors, etc.
The name would be gone. MSL exists because beside the infrastructure it holds prestige, they have a relationship with KeSPA and teams (Gom league had the cash, but didn't have this). They also have a strong name, which lets them negotiate with big sponsors. + Show Spoiler + So, I don't want to blow this out of proportion, because no news are final yet. But MBC Game closing down (or switching to another thing) would be pretty big for BW and pretty big for any niche Esports in Korea.
I do not disagree with your post in the least, but losing half of ProLeague televised coverage is a pretty big deal when you are talking about eSports growth...

My dream scenario is that GOM has some enormous amounts of cash on hand and acquires MBCGame, retains all its BW infrastructure and programming and keeps the show rolling.
This is all so scary T_T

GOM is smaller, doesn't really work out all too well. GOM isn't a TV channel, it's just an internet streamer.

certianly a mixed bag of news. MBC was kinda of crap (foreigner haters) but then again BW is gonna be in trouble also

i'm sighing in the most audible way Any link? Of this VODS getting taken down. I haven't looked into VODS lately. :/ And I haven't seen any getting taken down yet. hes probably talking about Jon747,because it can't be nevake, hell just a few hours ago Hwaseung's official youtube account made a comment on nevake's account Show nested quote +LecafOZ (11 hours ago)Very Thanks VOD, but there is some mistake. The progame teams know, and apparently approve, of Nevake? Why did Jon747 get taken down then?

Jon747 was due to WCG content iirc. Not because of Proleague etc.

Disappointing that they never got his account back . Wasn't it just a few videos out of hundred which were a problem? Could have just kept the account but removed the WCG content.

Yeah, but a daughter of CJ. If MBC goes really down, maybe CJ + Gom could do something, i'm hoping it if it really happens.

Have there been any (official) response from pros regarding this? Obviously it is disappointing but I wonder what the pros have to say and what their reactions are.
