I was an average joe who signed up to be part of an elite football team being assembled by the U.S. Navy Seals for nationals. We underwent a grueling 12 week training exorcise on land and sea to prepare us physically and mentally. Throughout the training we underwent generic hallamark hardships involving political pressure to not succeed, budget cuts, favoritism, racism, horrible storms at sea that would rival that of The Perfect Storm. The dream had it's upbeat moments as well however, where a foot race rally between my team and an already established pro football team took place. I was the one who had to do the race on ground where my teammate Jacks was required to be my partner for the water race.
I won the race for us, and I went from being the underdog on the team everybody thought shouldn't be there due to no military training, to a respected member of the team that day.
We also had our montages and feel good moments. I arrived at the teams meeting spot to discuss everything that had been going on the last 12 weeks, and our Master Chief gave us a partial inspirational speech:
"Gentlemen, I tell you today that nobody wants us to succeed. The powers that be are throwing everything at us to ensure we do not play our games in three days time. Personally I think it's a bunch of political bullshit and a waste of all of our times if all they wanted this team to do was fail. Well I refuse to accept that, I refuse!"
Then my brother who was also on the team stepped in:
"I didn't bust my ass these last 12 weeks just to roll over and die! I say we fight, fight and make them pay for every single yard they take."
Then the rest of the team started huddling around my brother and I, and I responded:
"I've become such a different person since being with you guys. Before, I was just a nobody. I sat around all day doing absolutely nothing, watching my life waste away in front of my eyes. This team, and you guys, have given me a new outlook on life. I love this game and I say we go out there, and have fun and win! Everybody with me?! Fuck-HELL!"
Everybody started cheering and roaring while our Master Chief stayed silent, but smiling. We put our hands together and started chanting "Fuck-HELL".
Then it did the thing where in the movies when the whole team starts to click and they're enjoying everything, that fun type music starts to play and everything is in slow motion. I was putting my cleats on in slow-motion and the team dumped a bunch of drinks all over me and handed me a Seal Graduate ring. I woke up shortly after.
Weird ass dream no? Note to all of you who read this: Don't fall asleep watching GI Jane and think about The Perfect Storm and wake up to The Longest Yard.
