So I'm currently in Taiwan on my summer vacation working as an intern at KPMG. Not important.
I went to the night market (Liouhe in Kaohsiung) and got some...
SNAKE!
My ASCII rendition of a snake. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~0<
Yes it's quite an interesting meat, very little meat in the portion I had as it was boney. what a rip off it was 400NT = 12USD
Simply made with basil/soy sauce, the meat's texture is a little gamey, the meat itself does not have a strong taste (such as lamb). Overall I'd recommend everybody try some snake if they aren't afraid or whatnot.
tl:dr It's like chicken
Pics.
bucket o dead snake
cage o live snake
bowl of snake
a piece of snake meat

Didn't go to Taiwan to not eat snake.
You forgot to tell us if it tasted like chicken.

Something I definitely want to try someday.

Had my share of snake when I went to China, tasted like chicken
|
Always wanted to try, but I was usually told it's more a winter dish
Anything like eel?

the meat is tougher than eel

Snake definitely tastes a bit like chicken, but unless you can get a big enough chunk in your mouth you are always aware it's snake because the bones are right there.

Everyone says everything almost tastes like chicken ants, bugs, snakes it just makes it normal then gotta try it someday just because it tastes like chicken

Not sure about that. Why don't we do that with all the foods we don't like?
I think chicken is just an easy thing to compare foreign meat with. I definitely tasted the similarities when I had alligator meat.

Looks really good. Never read a food blog when you're hungry, it's torture.

You can eat eggs, you can eat a chicken (and a chick I assume)
THEN WHY NOT SOMETHING IN BETWEEEN?
I'm feeling so angry right now >_>
Looking forward to try it one day :D

What does it taste like? How exactly do they prepare balut? Do you eat it after you boil it or is it cooked/seasoned somehow?

If you get the ones from the supermarket I think you'll still have to boil it in water or something, but when you get the ones from the streets, it's good to go. :D
It's actually really tasty, it goes really well with salt.
I don't think that much preparation is needed for balut, cuz the incubated duckling is there and all you have to do is to eat it.
